Delaware native and Packers' Darnell Savage was NFL's fastest on pick-6 that buried Cowboys

Eagles fans always take pleasure in losses by the Dallas Cowboys.

So those fans had to be ecstatic Sunday a little before halftime when Delaware native and Caravel Academy star Darnell Savage intercepted Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and returned the ball 64 yards for a touchdown.

That gave the Green Bay Packers a 27-0 lead. Savage's interception was the fourth longest in Packers playoff history. But to Savage and the Packers, the No. 7 seed in the NFC, it sent them on their way to a shocking 48-32 win over the No. 2 seeded Cowboys.

Savage was also clocked as the fastest ball carrier from Wild Card weekend, heading into Monday night's Eagles-Tampa Bay Buccaneers game. Savage was clocked at 20.82 mph, according to NFL's NextGen Stats.

That was faster than Dallas' KaVontae Turpin (20.43 mph) on his 47-yard kickoff return for a TD, and Miami's Tyreek Hill (20.29 mph) on his 53-yard TD catch.

Savage, however, didn't really celebrate much after the pick-6.

"If you ask me, (my teammates) were mad at me because I wasn't celebrating afterwards," Savage told reporters after the game. "But I was like, 'We gotta still keep playing.' But yeah, it was definitely a momentum swing in the game."

When told his touchdown made the score 27-0, Savage replied: "That's a big deficit to come back from, so that was good to go out there and make that play, and celebrate with the guys."

It has been a somewhat difficult season for Savage, the Packers' first-round pick out of Maryland. He missed seven games with a calf injury. The interception against the Cowboys was his first of the season.

The Packers advanced to face the No. 1 seed San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round.

Other Delawareans in the playoffs

Chris Godwin, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Middletown): He plays Monday night against the Eagles in the wildcard round. Godwin had 83 catches for 1,024 yards.

Troy Reeder, LB, Los Angeles Rams (Salesianum/University of Delaware): Reeder was a key special teams player for the Rams, who lost 24-23 to the Detroit Lions on Sunday night. Reeder played all 17 games, and had 23 tackles as a linebacker.

Joe Flacco, QB, Cleveland Browns (University of Delaware): Flacco, who turns 39 Tuesday, joined the Browns late in the season as an injury replacement and led the Browns to a 4-1 finish down the stretch. But Flacco couldn't keep it going in the playoffs as the Browns lost 45-14 to the Houston Texans. Flacco threw for 307 yards in the defeat.
