Brian Kelly will set trend with LSU football injury reports in 2023. Here's why

BATON ROUGE – LSU football is making sure that sports betting does not become a negative factor for its team this season.

Coach Brian Kelly revealed on Thursday following LSU's first day of preseason practices that the Tigers do not allow anyone in their program to have betting apps on their phones.

"I think it's better to be proactive in those situations and take away even the temptation to even have that in this building and not be that next school that goes down that path," Kelly said.

To also help avoid any potential gambling issues, Kelly this season has implemented an injury report system similar to how teams in the NFL report injuries.

One of the main reasons why the rule is in place, according to Kelly, is because the GEO Locators embedded in their phones would give the gaming apps access to knowing where they would be at all times.

"There are GEO Locators on your phone for every one of those apps," Kelly said.

Kelly doesn't believe that there is anyone in his program who would or could commit any betting violations. But in his mind, it's better for his program to be safe than sorry when it comes to betting.

"I think it's just much more about wanting to be proactive than reactive than anything else," Kelly said.
