Some WHS and WMS sports opened this week, others set to hold their first practices next week
The 2023 fall high school sports season has arrived for Watertown High School and Watertown Middle School athletes.
Practice opened Monday for the competitive cheer and dance, boys and girls soccer and girls tennis teams. Practice opens next week for the rest of the WHS squads, with WMS athletes set to open in the coming weeks.
Here is the starting information for the WHS and WMS fall athletes:
COMPETITIVE CHEER: Started Monday, July 31. Head Coach: malory.hoffmann@k12.sd.us.
COMPETITIVE DANCE: Started Monday, July 31. Head coach: frahercarolyn@gmail.com.
SOCCER: Boys Varsity & JV started Monday, July 31. Head coach: jesse.hauck@k12.sd.us and Girls Varsity & JV started Monday, July 31. Head Coach: emily.trupe@k12.sd.us.
GIRLS TENNIS (Grades 6-12): Started Monday, July 31. Head coach: ryan.zink@k12.sd.us.
BOYS GOLF: Varsity and junior varsity tryouts begin Monday at 2 p.m. at the Prairie Winds Golf Club and Tuesday and Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Cattail Crossing Golf Course. Head Coach: corey.neale@k12.sd.us. Please email Coach Neale is you plan to attend these tryout dates.
Middle School (Grades 7-8): will meet on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 3:45 at the Watertown Middle School. Junior varsity and middle school coach: ryan.neale@k12.sd.us.
FOOTBALL: Grades 9-12 to being practice on Monday at 8 a.m. at Watertown Stadium. Head coach: john.hodorff@k12.sd.us.
Grades 7-8: Equipment check out held on Tuesday, Aug. 22 (8th grade from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and seventh grade from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the WMS gym). First practice set for Thursday, Aug. 24 at WMS. Equipment will be available for checkout prior to practice on the 24th if you can’t make it on the 22nd. Coaches -- 7th Grade: nate.clark@k12.sd.us and 8th Grade: tom.wilde@k12.sd.us.
CROSS COUNTRY (Grades 6-12): To meet on Thursday, Aug. 10 at 8 a.m. at Watertown High School. Head coach: jennifer.mcelroy@k12.sd.us.
VOLLEYBALL: Grades 9-10 to meet on Thursday, Aug. 10 at 8 a.m. at Watertown High School. Head coach: rosemary.bellum@k12.sd.us.
Grades 7-8: Informational meeting for student only set for 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24 at the Middle School cafe. First practice is Friday, Aug. 25 at 3:30 p.m. at WMS. Coaches -- 7th Grade: karen.bossman44@gmail.com and 8th Grade: tawny.heiser@k12.sd.us.
