Who's in, who's out? FHSAA releases girls soccer playoff brackets for Northeast Florida

The numbers are crunched and the brackets are here, after the Florida High School Athletic Association released its girls soccer playoff assignments Friday for the 2023-24 postseason.

Friday's bracket release included several miscues by the FHSAA, including a bizarre moment in which the association omitted St. Johns Country Day winner of 11 consecutive titles from 2012 and 2022 and listed Tallahassee St. John Paul II twice in the same region. The association paused the broadcast for about two minutes to address the error.

In its initial release, the FHSAA also mistakenly included Harvest Community as a playoff team in Region 3-2A. The Arlington school does not compete in district girls soccer.

Reigning Class 7A champion Bartram Trail, fresh off Thursday's win over formerly-unbeaten Creekside, could be on a collision course with the Longleaf Pine Parkway rivals once more. Both qualified in Region 1-7A, with Bartram Trail leapfrogging the Knights to the top seed.

The bubble burst for Bolles, which missed out on FHSAA regionals for the first time since 1990, and for Fletcher, just two years removed from its first-ever state title.

While champions of the just-completed district tournaments qualified automatically, the FHSAA used its ranking formula to assign four at-large bids per class per region to compete in the playoffs.

Playoffs begin Tuesday for Classes 2A-4A and on Feb. 13 for Classes 5A-7A.
