Whiteford takes two from Summerfield by scoring 20 runs

PETERSBURG – Whiteford's baseball team needed only nine hits to score 20 runs and sweep Summerfield, 9-3 and 11-1 Thursday.

Nate Stevens got the win in game one, going six and two-thirds innings, striking out 13 Bulldogs. Luke Vida, Brendon Masters, Logan Tammerine and Stevens had the Bobcat hits – all singles. Jake Wadsworth had three hits for Summerfield.

In second game, former Summerfield athlete Logan Keane went all five innings for the Bobcats, striking out 11 and allowing just two hits and no earned runs. Stevens and Tammerine had two hits apiece for the 8-1 Bobcats, who scored five runs in the first inning.

Wadsworth took the loss despite giving up just four hits.

Ida plays ‘complete game’

CLINTON – Noah Adkins and Owen Snyder combined on a two-hitter with no earned runs as Ida topped Clinton 4-1 Thursday.

“We finally came out and played a complete game,” Ida coach Jimmy McMonagle said. “Noah Adkins and Owen Snyder were great on the mound and we played errorless baseball. A great win for us.”

Jaxon Millican collected two hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead the offense for the 3-5 Blue Streaks. AJ Schrader also had a pair of hits.

McNamara provides relief

WILLIS – Cade McNamara came on in relief in the opening inning and finished the game as Bedford held off Ypsilanti Lincoln 6-4 Thursday.

Jace Bloomer and Isaac Garrow each had a pair of hits as the Mules improved to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in the Southeastern Conference Red.

Flat Rock stops Milan

FLAT ROCK – Jayden Yancey tossed a no-hitter, extending his streak of hitless innings to 12, to lead Flat Rock past Milan 4-1 Thursday.

Anthony Hernandez and Ty Bergeron paced the offense with two hits each.

Milan pitcher KJ DeMars didn’t give up any earned runs.

Huron keeps rolling

BELLEVILLE – New Boston Huron got solid pitching and plenty of hitting in beating Belleville 10-1 Thursday to run its record to 8-1.

Huron pitchers Gavin O’Hara, Dayton Miller and Jacob Furkas held off the Tigers while Kyle Kantola and Jackson Surma recorded two hits each and Myles Grace walked three times to lead the offense.

Jets win at Whiteford

OTTAWA LAKE – Airport pulled off an impressive sweep at Whiteford Thursday, winning 3-2 and 9-4.

“Our Jets pulled off two really nice wins against a very good Whiteford team tonight,” Airport coach Jessica Irwin said.

Olivia Tilley led the way in the first game. She drew a walk in the first inning and scored on a single by Alayna McDaniel. With her team trailing 2-1 in the fourth, she drove a ball in the gap to plate two runs.

McDaniel earned the victory.

RaeAnn Drummond earned the win in the second game, helping her own cause with two hits including a three-run homer. Danielle Dalpiaz, Peyton Zajac, Tilley and McDaniel also had two hits each.

Whiteford’s Unity Nelson gave up just three hits in the first game and struck out 14. She had three hits of her own and Karlei Conard added two.

Brooklyn Mills was 3-for-3 in the second game.

Big game for Batey

TEMPERANCE – Ashtyn Batey went 2-for-2 with two doubles and four RBI to lead Bedford to a 15-0 rout of Adrian Thursday.

Payton Pudlowski homered and drove in two runs along with Kaitlyn Kwiatkowski. Nyah Mullins and winning pitcher Paige Bock stroked doubles.

Addisons lead Carlson

GIBRALTAR – Addison Skinner tossed a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and Addison Butt went 3-for-3 to lead Gibraltar Carlson to a 16-5 victory over Taylor Thursday.

Kiley Lewandowski went 3-for-4 and Skinner and Izzy Salas each had two hits for the 6-2 Marauders.

Huron outlasts SMCC

MONROE – Both teams scored twice in the seventh inning and once in the ninth before New Boston Huron finally nipped St. Mary Catholic Central 8-7 with a run in the tenth Thursday.

“It was a great game and I’m proud of my girls’ fight,” SMCC coach Dani Williams said. “We were down early and they kept chipping away.”

Huron scored what turned out to be the winning run on a great slide by Sasha Pender to avoid a tag at the plate.

Erin Newman’s three-run homer in the second inning was the big hit of the game. Rylie Greggo doubled home a run, Emma Sic had an RBI single and Maria Robbins had a sacrifice fly and a squeeze bunt to bring home runs.

Marissa Jackson and Jenna Kuzara finished with three hits each and Newman added two.

Braelyn Runyon, Camryn Gee and Maddie Gessner notched two hits each for SMCC and Olivia Piepsney pitched well.

Dundee’s Imo perfect

DUNDEE – Kaylee Imo hurled a perfect game in the opener, leading Dundee to a 10-0, 11-2 sweep of Summerfield Thursday.

Lauren Doane allowed just three hits in the second game.

“Both Kaylee and Lauren didn’t really nice job mixing there pitches today,” Dundee coach Mickey Moody said.

Kennedy Irwin, Natalie Rath, Kiernan Brown and Shay VanZandt racked up four hits each and Imo ripped the first triple of her high school career.

Fast start for Mason

BRITTON– Erie Mason pushed its record to 4-0 in the Tri-County Conference and 6-1 overall by sweeping Britton Deerfield 22-4 and 16-1 Thursday.

Raelynn Lay led the offense with five hits and seven RBI. Zoie Stubleski and Ava Belair added three hits each and Audrey Trainor stole seven bases.

Errors doom Monroe

MONROE – Monroe committed nine errors in a 14-1 loss to Pinckney Thursday.

Alana Aulph’s sacrifice fly brought home the only run for the 3-4 Trojans.

Eshenroder scores four

MONROE – Emily Eshenroder scored four times to lead Monroe to a 7-1 win over Bedford Thursday.

Brooke Trouten, Rebecca Pace and Zoe Leach scored the other goals. Aubrey Cowan was outstanding in the midfield and Isabella Reed and Alle Marcero led the defense.

Elizabeth Klocek scored Bedford’s goal off an assist from Kara Todd, who was added to the team earlier Thursday and got her uniform on the way to the game.

Maddie Helpman and Kami Morse played well for the Mules.

Jefferson-Mason earns tie

NEWPORT – Camryn Cousino’s goal off an assist from Morgan Simota gave Jefferson-Erie Mason a 1-1 tie against Melvindale Thursday.

“Last year this team mercied Jefferson so a tie is a big step up for Jefferson-Mason,” said Jefferson-Mason coach Dave Cousino.

Shutout for Carlson

TAYLOR – Gibraltar Carlson (4-0-1) remained undefeated by blanking Taylor 8-0 Thursday.

Pulling off the sweep were Adyson Brake, Erin Riley, Rylie Sulewski, Julie Mitchell, Brooklyn Roldan-Delaney Boller, Madison Jacobs-Lila Angelos, Necole Sendry-Sarah Pente and Chloe Hales-Aliyah Newman.

Huron sweeps Monroe

ANN ARBOR – Ann Arbor Huron rolled to an 8-0 win over Monroe Thursday.

Milan doubles sweep

MILAN – A sweep of the doubles by Jessica Lubke-Ella Warren, Ava Demond-Gwen Jones, Maya Grimley-Rylee Kenned and Clara Schlese- Ava Swaney led Milan to a 7-1 victory against Tecumseh Thursday.

Ally Jones, Babby Dryden and Alaina Brubaker posted singles wins for 3-4 Milan.

PREP GOLF

SMCC tops Dundee

MONROE – Dom Marvaso took medalist honors with 40 as St. Mary Catholic Central outshot Dundee 167-181 at Green Meadows Golf Course Thursday.

Thomas Rivard added a 41 and Drew Vuich 42 for the Falcons. Carter Bahn, Andy Barnes and Levi Evans all shot 45 for Dundee.

Guess, Soss tie

TEMPERANCE – Taleon Guess and Frank Soss tied for medalist honors by shooting 37 in Bedford’s season-opening 152-177 win over Dexter Thursday.

Carter Klawonn carded a 38 and Camden Price and Jayce Yarad each finished with 40.

Bedford won the junior varsity match 187-190 behind a 44 by Brady Younce.

GOLF

Bezeau shoots ace

DUNDEE – Dennis Bezeau shot his first hole-in-one at Dundee Golf Club recently.

He aced the 145-yard No. 9 hole with a 3-wood.
