White Marlin Open day 4 leaderboard: Billfish elusive, but tuna, dolphin and wahoo reign

With no white marlin, blue marlin or swordfish having yet been caught at this year's White Marlin Open, today's final day could indeed offer a thrilling race to the finish.

On day 4, the leaderboard continued to pile up with big tuna, dolphin and wahoo catches, and here's the latest tally.

Tuna

First place: Chris Mentlik of Street, Md., caught a 247.5-pound tuna aboard the Fishlik out of Chincoteague, currently valued at $1,200,000.

Second place: John Zimmerman of Boyton Beach, Fla., caught a 221.5-pound tuna aboard the Game Over out of Ocean City, currently valued at $160,000.

Third place: Rusty Shriver of Leonardtown, Md., caught a 215-pound tuna aboard the Ro Sham Bo out of Ocean City, currently valued at $260,000.

Wahoo

First place: John Harris of Boyertown, Pa., caught a 57-pound wahoo aboard the Shooting Star out of Indian River, currently valued at $2,000.

Second place: Chad Jackson of Fort Myers, Fla., caught a 55-pound wahoo aboard the Captain Deadley out of Ocean City, currently valued at $32,000.

Third place: Francis Johnson of Mount Pleasant, S.C., caught a 40-pound wahoo aboard the SeaFix out of Mount Pleasant, currently valued at $32,000.

Dolphin

First place: Will McAteer of Kent Island caught a 31-pound dolphin aboard the Maverick out of Ocean City, currently valued at $34,000.

Second place: C.J. Walus of Newark, Del., caught a 26-pound dolphin aboard the Under Taker out of Indian River, currently valued at $2,000.

Third place: Harley Smegal of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., caught a 21-pound dolphin aboard the Hey Buddy out of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., currently valued at $32,000.

White marlin, blue marlin, swordfish

No billfish have qualified at this year's White Marlin Open, which sets up what could be an electrying finish today.
