Where Georgia women's basketball is picked to finish in the SEC in 2023-24

Georgia women's basketball is getting the spotlight this season with 10 games televised nationally through ESPN's network family.

Georgia added newcomers in the offseason, including a top-60 junior guard transfer from California and a four-star freshman forward from Phoenix, Az.

The Lady Bulldogs were picked to finish seventh by a panel of SEC and national media members, according to an announcement by the conference.

"I feel like we're (a) secret. I think we're a secret. I love, obviously, the underdog ... mentality," Abrahamson-Henderson said. "Our system is in. ... Obviously we're excited. The preseason picks last year, we got picked ninth and ended fifth. My team is always going to be really hungry and humble, play really hard and enjoy every game, taking it one game at a time. That's pretty much what you'll see this year."

Georgia finished sixth in the SEC in Abrahamson-Henderson's first season, going 22-12 overall and 9-7 in-conference. Abrahamson-Henderson took over a program coming off a similar 21-10 overall, 9-7 in-conference season.

The freshman class includes forward Miyah Verse, redshirt center Fatima Diakhate and redshirt guards Stefanie Ingram and Savannah Henderson, who appeared in four games before suffering an injury.

"We develop freshmen right away when they get in, teaching them how to be leaders, what to say, how to talk," Abrahamson-Henderson said. "I give them a role every day in practice."

Transfers include forward Destiny Thomas from UCF, guard Taniyah Thompson from Penn State and guard Asia Avinger from San Diego State.

The returnees include forwards Javyn Nicholson, Amiya Evans, Jordan Cole and Zoesha Smith, as well as guards De'Mauri Flournoy and Chloe Chapman.

Georgia women's basketball opens the regular season Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. with North Carolina A&T at Stegeman Coliseum. SEC competition begins Jan. 4, 2024, when Texas A&M comes to town.
