Where do Gardner-area girls basketball teams stand as postseason approaches?

As the regular season winds down in its final weeks, Gardner area high school girls basketball teams are across the spectrum on standings.

Some are gearing up for the playoffs while some are working hard in the final games to qualify, and others have not been so lucky to see a postseason appearance.

Here is where Gardner area teams stand as the MIAA state tournament quickly approaches.

Gardner

Gardner (No. 20, Div. 4) is a powerhouse this season. Qualifying for the tournament at the beginning of January, the Wildcats are currently 15-2 (10-2 Mid Wach D).

The Wildcats' only two losses were to West Boylston (11-1 in Mid-Wach D) and they had big wins otherwise -- their closest win was by 5 points (51-46 against Tahanto), but most were by more than 10.

Tati Vazquez continues to be the Wildcats' leading scorer, averaging 17 points per game. She not only leads the team, but also leads Mid-Wach D. Krista Bettez (10.6 ppg) is another top contributor.

Quabbin

Quabbin (No. 23, Div. 3) is having a breakout season. The Panthers have qualified for the state tournament already with a record of 13-4, 8-4 in Mid Wach C (second behind Tyngsboro, who is 12-0 in league and 16-1 overall).

The Panthers latest two games were both hard-fought wins, digging deep to pull it out in the final quarter. Sophomore Mia Ducos leads offensively, averaging 10.4 points per game. Her point guard partner in crime, Meaghan Doyle, follows close behind with 10.2.

Quabbin sets up in a zone defense against Notre Dame Academy in a game on Feb. 6, 2024. The Panthers defeated NDA, 50-44.

Narragansett

Narragansett (No. 20, Div. 5) is having a solid season, one that likely comes with an appearance in the state playoffs. The Warriors have a record of 9-8, 6-6 Mid Wach D.

A highlight is a close win against Ayer-Shirley 39-38. The team's top players include Brielle Haddocks, Brooke Haddocks, Amanda Iannacone and Kaelyn Cote.

Oakmont

Oakmont (No. 39, Div. 3) has a record of 6-11 overall, 6-6 in league play - smack in the middle of Mid-Wach B. The Spartans have two games left -- Lunenburg on Friday and a first round game in the Clark Tournament against Tantasqua on Saturday.

Their fate in the playoffs will depend on the power rankings. As they currently sit under .500, they will need to break into the top 32 to qualify, so wins to finish the season could be crucial to achieving that.

They have had some tough games, losing a close ones to North Middlesex by one (37-36) and Westborough by two (49-47). Their offense comes largely from a team effort, with no one player taking on the bulk of scoring. Olivia Martin, Molly Horgan and Ella Dellasanta all are contributors for the Spartans.

Monty Tech

Monty Tech (No. 63, Div. 3) is 8-10, 6-3 in the Colonial league. The Bulldogs will have to finish at .500 to qualify for the state tournament.

Murdock

Murdock (No. 46, Div. 5) is 2-15 and in the middle of a rebuilding season. After not having a season two years ago, Murdock alum Morgan St. Pierre has been at the helm for two seasons and is coaching a team of solely sophomores.
