Find out where Corpus Christi athletes committed on National Signing Day

Veterans Memorial's Christian Sabsook worked himself into just as much of a dominant force on offense as he already had been on defense for years with the Eagles as a senior.

And the FCS-bound Sabsook said he still may see action on both sides of the ball next season.

Sabsook led a handful of signees at Veterans Memorial on Wednesday, and across the Coastal Bend as seniors inked on National Signing Day, committing to play football at Air Force.

"They lost seniors at the DB position, but they talked to me about playing offense, too," Sabsook said. "I'm going to try to play both ways and beat everyone for a spot.

"Signing to play D-I was an emotional moment. I'm glad to share it with people I love. I'm glad everything happened this way and this is God's plan for me."

Sabsook was an All-South Texas receiver this year (45 catches, 900 yards, 11 touchdowns) after earning accolades as a defensive back in his first two seasons as a starter for the Eagles.

The senior said the facilities at the academy, the strict academics, along with how Air Force will prepare him for the rest of his life played into his decision.

"The opportunities and what it will give me for life played a big part," Sabsook said. "I hope to get some time on the field as a freshman. The coaches treated me well, and it was like it was home."

Teammate Luke Johnson committed to play football at West Texas A&M after being named all-state at safety for the Eagles for multiple seasons.
