Where to brunch and watch Miami Dolphins vs. Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday morning

The Miami Dolphins play the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday — by itself a monumental gift from the football gods. But its early 9:30 a.m. kickoff from Frankfurt, Germany, also delivers fortuitous dispensation from the traditional Sunday morning to-do list. Sorry, Honey. Forgive me, Father.

Then there’s the exciting collision between two staples of life in South Florida, Dolphins football and brunch. Here are some local Sunday morning watch parties where you can combine these themes at a sports bar or a German restaurant. Or what about a German sports bar?

Wunderbar Sports Bar & Grill in Davie is a restaurant that serves traditional sports-watching fare, including burgers, wings, nachos and ribs. But the menu also has a German side. So when they open for the game at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Wunderbar’s Dolphins & Chiefs Brunch will include traditional French toast and omelets — and you’ll also find chicken schnitzel and waffle sliders (genius!) and kaiserschmarrn, an Austrian dish of shredded, caramelized pancakes.

“Imagine a pile of pancakes kind of just torn up. It’s amazing,” says Wunderbar manager Ramon Delvalle.

The other unique feature of the Dolphins watch party at Wunderbar is their Sunday beer special, offering 50% off German liters — “the big boys,” as Delvalle calls them — at nearly 34 ounces each. Normally priced at $16 to $18, they’ll be $8 to $9 for the game.

“If you know anything about German beers, you know that we carry really hard-to-find, top brands, like Bitburger, Warsteiner and Weihenstephaner. We have a lot of beers that people have not seen but they fall in love with,” Delvalle says.

Before you order more than one, they may ask you to spell kaiserschmarrn or Weihenstephaner or Tagovailoa.

Wunderbar Sports Bar & Grill is at 4995 Volunteer Road, Davie. Visit Facebook.com/wunderbarsportsbar.
