Westwood soccer player Sam Walker voted Austin-area Girls Athlete of the Week
Westwood goalkeeper Sam Walker, who sparked the Warriors' 9-2-3 start to the season with five shutout victories, was voted the Covert Chevrolet Bastrop Austin-Area Girls Athlete of the Week for Feb. 12-17.
Walker, who had 57 saves through the first 14 matches, received 49% of the vote.
Dripping Springs softball player Haiden Anderson, McCallum basketball player Emy Chen, Glenn basketball player Soma Okolo and Hendrickson basketball player Niyah Waters also were candidates. Bowie soccer player Ava Grosso won the previous poll, for Feb. 5-10.
The American-Statesman will have a weekly vote for Girls Athlete of the Week and Boys Athlete of the Week throughout the academic year.
