Western routs Crestview to stay atop FC

Jan. 7—COLLINS — The Western Reserve girls basketball team stayed alone atop the Firelands Conference with Saturday's 47-24 win over visiting Ashland Crestview.

With the win over the Cougars (5-9, 4-4), the Roughriders improved to 9-3 overall and 8-0 in the FC. On Dec. 2, the teams played a near identical score in Olivesburg, as the 'Riders claimed a 47-23 win.

In Saturday's win, Anna Woodrum was 5-of-9 shooting to finish with 15 points. She also added four rebounds and three assists for the 'Riders, while Madison Pfanner scored seven points and grabbed four rebounds.

Also for Western, Bella Thornburg had six points and five rebounds, while Grace French grabbed seven rebounds. Lilli White added three points, four rebounds and three steals.

Western Reserve will host Plymouth on Friday.

NEW LONDON — The Wildcats maintained sole possession of second place and one game behind the Roughriders with Saturday's home win over the Eagles.

New London (8-5, 6-1) led 17-3 after one quarter and never looked back. Emliee Rowland led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points. She was followed by Gracie Thomas with 10 points, Olivia Yetter with nine — and Alyssa Henry and Pailee Wilson with seven points each.

New London hosts Wellington on Monday in a non-league game before rematching with the Eagles in Monroeville next Saturday.
