West Ottawa grad Cameron Dunn goes from junior hockey to college

Cameron Dunn wanted hockey to be in his future.

The West Ottawa graduate left to play junior hockey and currently plays for the Odessa Jackalopes in the North American Hockey League.

His play in the NAHL brought him to his next step - college hockey.

Dunn committed to play at UMass, entering a new era of his career.

"I chose to commit to UMass because they are a well-known program with top-of-the-line resources to aid my development," Dunn said. "Along with a winning reputation, they have been very successful at moving their players to the professional level of hockey. My goal is to enjoy my time at UMass while pushing myself to advance to professional hockey post-college."

Sometimes players go right to the college ranks from high school, sometimes they take the road like Dunn. It is one of the things that makes hockey unique - there are different kinds of opportunities.

Dunn has been able to be out on his own playing juniors, working hard and waiting for the right opportunity.

"Since graduating high school, I have been living away from home to play junior hockey," he said. "It is hard being far away from family and friends, but it is nice to have some independence, while making tons of new connections with new people in the area."

Now, the connections will come at the next level of the game.
