Who were the top performers for Week 4 of winter season?

Week 4 of the winter season featured a number of highlights and top performances.

Norwich Free Academy sophomore Trinity Ambruso won all five events to lead the Wildcats girls gymnastics team to a win in their first meet of the season.

The NFA wrestling team had a terrific showing at the Ray Southland Duals in Southington.

Killingly had a number of big wrestling performances at the Lawman Duals in Milford.

The Killingly girls basketball team capped a four-game win streak with a victory over Stonington.

And the Norwich Tech boys basketball team topped Grasso Tech for its first win of the season.

Here are the highlights and top performances from Week 4:

Boys basketball

Malachy Murray and Ethan Graham each scored 19 points as Norwich Free Academy edged Windham, 75-73. Armanee Davis and Gage Hinkley each had 13 points for the Wildcats (3-4).

NFA fell short against rival New London, 71-58. Davis led the Wildcats with 16 points, while Graham chipped in 12 points.

Kaiden Kazlauskas scored 16 points and Kolby Mills added 11 points as Griswold topped Killingly, 51-42. Johnny Kazantzis scored a game-high 20 points for Killingly (2-4).

The Wolverines (3-3) also earned a 71-57 win over Waterford. Kazlauskas poured in 18 points, Carmelo Curtis made five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points, while Sean Garvin made four 3-pointers for 12 points to lead Griswold.

Kazantzis had 19 points, 15 rebounds, and seven assists, while Quin Crowley added 17 points in Killingly’s 70-64 loss against Stonington.

Norwich Tech captured its first win of the season with a 64-50 CTC victory over Grasso Tech. Collin Schulze shot 12 of 16 from the field and finished with 26 points, Connor McRae collected 17 points and six assists, while Daniel Hess added 16 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks to power the Warriors (1-5).

Ian Brais scored 21 points and Owen Lefebvre added 12 points but Ellis Tech (2-5) fell short against Grasso Tech, 61-55.

Lefebvre scored 11 points and Lyric Teevan chipped in 10 points in the Golden Eagles’ 97-55 loss against Windham Tech.

Girls basketball

Molly Crabtree made four 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 22 points to lift Killingly past Stonington, 62-42. Laura Farquhar added 15 points, while Arianha Headen chipped in with 10 points as Killingly captured its fourth straight win.

Molly and Sydney Crabtree each had eight points but Killingly fell short against Fitch, 39-35.

In CTC action, Kylie Damble scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds and Kiara Cartier (seven points) spearheaded Ellis Tech’s terrific defensive performance with three steals in a 25-23 win over Windham Tech. Sadie Murray collected eight rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Rose Lopez added seven rebounds for the Golden Eagles (7-2).

Olivia Luurtsema scored 14 points and Maya Stimson added 13 points to lead Norwich Tech past Grasso Tech, 56-12.

The Warriors (4-4) also won a non-league contest against Wheeler, 32-25. Abby Ulrich led Norwich Tech with 11 points, while Autumn Hanks and Luurtsema each had six points.

Abby Matheson scored 12 points and Natalie Becotte chipped in nine points in Griswold’s 66-44 loss against Ledyard.

Wrestling

Norwich Free Academy continued to make waves throughout the state with a terrific showing at the Ray Southland Duals in Southington. The Wildcats defeated Conard (47-23) and Maloney (52-24) but fell to eventual champion No. 2 Newtown, 42-36.

Jackson Sorel (126), Ed Lavoie (132), Dugan Marsh (138), and Logan Jenkins (175) collected three wins for NFA. Landon Herdic (106) and Brock Nowakowski (113) also earned wins against Newtown.

Killingly rolled to wins over St. Joseph, Masuk, Bethel, Law, and Foran at the Lawman Duals in Milford. Brady Jonasch (106), Ian Cathell (120), Mason Connetti (126), Brady Zadora (132), Amani Samuel (138), Giovanni Sanchez-ruelas (157), Exael Padilla (165), Antonio St. Jean (175), Soren Rief (215), Darin Eaxrhoulias (285), Max Richardson (113), Aiden Mantia (144), and Jared Hansen (150) earned multiple wins for Killingly.

Seth Christie (120), Vincent Andreozzi (126), Caleb Christie (132), and Jeff Bentley (138) each earned pins as Griswold-Wheeler rolled past Bacon Academy, 71-9. Seth Christie was also the runner up at the Casey Yates Invitational in Lebanon.

Addison Herdic (106) and Georgios Sezenas Thompson (120) earned pins, and Kolby Sanders (144) won by major decision for Ellis Tech in a 60-22 loss against Foran. Sanders was also the runner up at the Casey Yates Invitational in Lebanon.

Gianno Pearson (120), Reuben Minter (144), Anthony Caisse (150), Lincoln Carlson (175) and Jonathan Harms (215) earned wins for East Lyme-Norwich Tech in a 48-31 loss against Killingly.

Gymnastics

Norwich Free Academy won its first meet of the season, defeating Stonington, 133.75-126.6, at Thames Valley Gymnastics in Franklin.

Trinity Ambruso powered the Wildcats by placing first in the floor (9.1), vault (9.2), uneven bars (9.4), balance beam (9.25), and all-around (36.95). Also for NFA, Allison Wojnar finished second in the vault (8.7), uneven bars (8.4), and floor (8.7), Wojnar placed third in the all-around (33.9).
