Wellesley will defend title at Cape Cod Golf National Club High School Invitational
Wellesley will test itself against Massachusetts' best boys golf programs again when it attempts to defend its title at the seventh annual Cape Cod National Golf Club High School Invitational on Sunday.
The Raiders won last year's event when they edged Bishop Stang by a single stroke, earning a return invite to the Brewster course. That result propelled Wellesley to an eventual tie for second place a the Division 1 state championships.
Golfers to watch: Four Wellesley players on the list
B.C. High, the defending D1 champion, is among the 11 teams that will take the course. The list also includes Division 2 champion Old Rochester and Division 3 champion Weston. Bishop Stang, Concord-Carlisle, Hingham, St. John's Prep, Winchester and Xaverian Brothers also received ream invitations.
Seven individuals also will tee off vying for medalist honors: two-time defending champion and reigning Massachusetts Amateur Champion Ryan Downes of Longmeadow, Jack Carstensen of St. John Paul II, Barnstable's Colin Gleason, Jack Martin of Nauset Regional, Varun Murthy (Acton-Boxborough), Ethan Sullivan (King Philip) and Chad Tordone (Barnstable).
Each team will bring its best four players, while the top three scores will count toward the team totals.
The competition tees off at 1 p.m. Sunday.
