The first half of district basketball action ends this week and Eddy County swimmers prepare for state with the district meet later this week.

Carlsbad Cavemen basketball seeks first league win

At 7 p.m. Friday at Carlsbad High School, the Cavemen host Hobbs in the closing game of part one of District 5-4A action.

Carlsbad (12-10, 0-2) started district action last week with a pair of losses to Clovis and Roswell.

Cavegirls look to go above even mark

At 7 p.m. Friday at Hobbs High School, the Carlsbad Cavegirls face the defending 5A state champions Lady Eagles.

Carlsbad (13-9, 1-1) split opening district games last week against Clovis and Roswell while Hobbs is undefeated in league play.

Carlsbad swim teams travel for district meet

At 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the Artesia Aquatic Center, the Cavemen and Cavegirl swimmers participate in the District 3/4A meet.

The state championships are slated for Feb. 23 and Feb. 24 in Albuquerque.

Cavegirl wrestling heads west for regional matches

At 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday in Bayard, New Mexico, part of the Carlsbad wrestling team participates in the girls’ regional meets at Cobre High School.

Loving Lady Falcons basketball seeks first district win this week

Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Hagerman High School, the Lady Falcons square off against the Hagerman Lady Bobcats in District 2-4A play.

Friday at 6 p.m. at Loving High School, the Lady Falcons (3-14, 0-2) host Eunice.

Loving Falcons basketball on road this week

At 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hagerman High School, the Falcons tangle with the Bobcats.

At 7:30 p.m. Friday at Loving High School, the Falcons host the Eunice Cardinals in a District 2-4A contest. Loving is 1-1 in league play.

Artesia Bulldogs travel for district play this week

At 7 p.m. Tuesday in Portales, the Bulldogs play the Rams in a District 4-4A contest.

At 7 p.m. Friday in Roswell, Artesia (11-8, 1-0) faces Goddard as the first half of league play ends.

Artesia Lady Bulldogs travel as well this week

At 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Portales High School, the Lady Bulldogs face the Lady Rams in league play.

At 5:30 p.m. Friday in Roswell, the Lady Bulldogs (15-5, 1-0) square off against Goddard.

Artesia swim teams host district meet

At 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the Artesia Aquatic Center, the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs host the District 3/4A meet.

Artesia wrapped up the regular season last week in Albuquerque at the Tom Casey Memorial.
