Week 2 football roundup: MAC teams get back on track

Here are some notable results from Thursday's high school football games in the Blue Water Area.

Croswell-Lexington 29, Richmond 10

It took four quarters, but the Pioneers managed to pull away at the end.

Gabriel Groppi ran for 157 yards and two touchdowns as Cros-Lex improved to 2-0. Quarterback Gavin Espinoza added 111 yards and one score on the ground.

As for the Blue Devils, they dropped to 1-1.

Marine City 62, Clawson 3

The Mariners held Clawson to just 32 yards of total offense and improved to 1-1.

Austin Brown rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns on five carries. He was one of six Marine City players to score on the ground.

Parker Atkinson led the way defensively with two interceptions, one of which he took 35 yards to the house.

Marysville 42, Hazel Park 0

Carter Saccucci ran for 177 yards and five touchdowns as the Vikings improved to 1-1. Corbin Scheffler added 80 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Marysville's defense forced four turnovers. Garret Distelrath caught an interception while Brandon Lee, Colin Loane and Nick Nuculovic all recovered a fumble.

North Branch 52, Imlay City 7

Nothing went right for the Spartans, who fell to 1-1.

Quarterback Matt Evans finished 9-of-14 passing for 167 yards and one touchdown against one interception.

Port Huron Northern 26, Warren Fitzgerald 14

Quarterback Ty Fletcher threw two touchdowns as the Huskies improved to 1-1.

Lincoln Watkins had a big night on both sides of the ball. In addition to catching a touchdown pass, he blocked a punt on defense and returned it for a score.

St. Clair 22, Warren Lincoln 2

The Saints forced six turnovers and improved to 1-1.

Cooper Pennewell led the way defensively with five tackles (three for loss) and one sack. Carter Peterson had two sacks of his own.

Peyton Ellis rushed for 36 yards and two touchdowns.

Brown City 66, Dryden 0 (8-Player)

Quarterback Lawson Cooper threw for 105 yards and three touchdowns as the Green Devils improved to 2-0. He also ran for 68 yards and two scores.

Defensively, Conner Vanlerberghe caught an interception and recovered a fumble.

Peck 54, Caseville 44 (8-Player)

Carsten Lieblang ran for 278 yards and three touchdowns as the Pirates improved to 1-1.

Quarterback Cal Heiden finished 2-of-3 passing for 53 yards and two scores. Both touchdown passes went to Tom West.

Aiden Alfaro made nine tackles on defense and returned an interception for a touchdown.
