Sandia 10, Cibola 6

At Wilson Stadium, Hunter Maldonado's touchdown run with about 8 minutes to go was the difference for eighth-ranked Sandia (8-2), which outlasted winless Cibola 10-6.

The Cougars (0-10) were leading 6-2 when the fourth quarter began. Maldonado's score, and a 2-point throw from Cruz Rivera to Jacob Adcox, made it 10-2.

Friday

Cleveland 37, Rio Rancho 0

The Cleveland Storm did to the Rio Rancho Rams what it did previously to La Cueva. To Centennial. To Volcano Vista.

That is to say, Cleveland didn't give Rio Rancho an inch of elbow room.

The Storm's stellar defense had another brilliant night, Harris Mbueha rushed for 129 yards and a pair of scores, and sophomore quarterback Jordan Hatch threw for two touchdowns as No. 1-ranked Cleveland blanked No. 5 Rio Rancho 37-0 on Friday on the Rams' field to clinch the District 1-6A championship and the No. 1 overall seed for the upcoming Class 6A state playoffs.

West Mesa 39, Eldorado 21

In a game that had the feel of a playoff eliminator, West Mesa took a significant step toward playing football in November.

The Mustangs (6-4, 1-3 2-6A) got five total touchdowns from Elijah Brody and some timely plays on special teams and defense to pull away for a 39-21 victory over Eldorado (4-6, 1-3) at Nusenda Community Stadium on Friday night. The victory left West Mesa feeling cautiously optimistic about its postseason chances.

Clovis 30, Las Lunas 29

At Leon Williams Stadium in Clovis, Jett Stone's 13-yard touchdown run with just over a minute remaining capped a big second-half comeback for the unranked Wildcats (5-5, 4-0), who stunned the fourth-ranked Tigers (7-3, 3-1) to capture the District 5-6A title and the automatic playoff berth that goes with it.

A year ago, Los Lunas beat Clovis 54-0.

"Left a sour taste," Clovis coach Andrew McCraw said in a telephone interview. "They didn't like it."

Los Lunas missed a potential game-winning field goal in the final minute.

The loss for the Tigers is going to have serious ramifications for them when the 6A playoff bracket is revealed on Sunday. They went from possibly having a first-round bye, to facing a definite first-round road game next week.

La Cueva 63, Farmington 28

At Hutchison Stadium in Farmington, the second-ranked Bears (7-3, 4-0) completed an undefeated run through District 2-6A, routing the Scorpions (5-5, 1-3) and stretching their winning streak to seven games following an 0-3 start.

Junior quarterback Cam Dyer combined for six passing and rushing touchdowns in the victory for La Cueva, which will have a first-round playoff bye next week.

Cruz Markham caught a pair of TD passes from Dyer for the Bears.

Albuquerque High 14, Manzano 13

At Wilson Stadium, Albuquerque High (4-6) won its second 14-13 game in three weeks, edging Manzano (2-8) in a season finale for both teams. AHS ended the year on a three-game win streak.

Valley 55, Rio Grande 0

At Milne Stadium, senior running back Charles Lopez-Burton rushed for five touchdowns, and also had a defensive score as the Vikings (7-3) closed out the regular season with a shutout of the Ravens (2-8).

Centennial 30, Las Cruces 23

At the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces, quarterback Zaiden Davis — who has been filling in lately for the injured Daniel Hernandez — rushed for 237 yards and two touchdowns as the Hawks (7-2, 5-0), ranked No. 3 by the coaches, held off the seventh-ranked Bulldawgs (5-5, 4-1) for the District 3-6A crown.

The victory was not secured until an interception by Centennial's Mychael Ortiz with a minute left at the 10-yard line.

Lovington 29, Portales 21

In Lovington, Class 4A's third-ranked Wildcats (7-3, 3-0) handed No. 1 Portales (9-1, 2-1) its first loss of the regular season, 29-21 in the District 4/6-4A championship game. All the scoring in this game occurred in the first half. After trailing 14-7, Lovington rattled off 19 consecutive points.

Roswell 38, Goddard 6

5A's top-ranked Roswell (10-0, 3-0 in 4-5A) finished off a perfect regular season, 38-6 over No. 4 Goddard (6-4, 1-2) at the Wool Bowl.

Deming 12, Gadsden 10

In Anthony, N.M., 5A's fifth-ranked Deming (7-3, 3-0 in 3-5A) edged No. 6 Gadsden (7-3, 2-1), 12-10 for that district's crown.
