Week 10 preview, predictions: Can Greencastle-Antrim secure postseason berth?

We have reached the end of the high school football regular season.

While Greencastle-Antrim looks to be the only team competing for a playoff spot, the rest of the county teams hope to send the seniors out on a high note and build some momentum for the young players going into the offseason.

Week 9: Shippensburg 'firing on all cylinders' in shutout vs. Waynesboro

Here's a look at the four county matchups on the slate in this final week.

2023 prediction record: 32-10

Shippensburg (4-5) at Greencastle-Antrim (6-3)

Greencastle's Xzavier Ramsey heads to the end zone after taking a lateral from teammate Carter McCauley. Greencastle defeated Northern York 24-14 to move to 5-1, Friday, September 29, 2023. (Markell DeLoatch for GameTimePa)

It looks like the Blue Devils will be playing postseason football next week, but they're going to want to make that a guarantee with a win in this one. It was a setback last week, as Mechanicsburg controlled much of last week's game against Greencastle. Shippensburg is coming off its most complete effort of the season against Waynesboro, shutting down a strong offense. Should be a tight one, but this Greencastle defense may be due for a rebound.

Prediction: Greencastle-Antrim 24, Shippensburg 16

District 3 playoffs: Schedule, results for Franklin County teams

Chambersburg (4-5) at State College (5-3)

Chambersburg has handled business against the bottom half of the Commonwealth Division, but has struggled against the elite. That presents an interesting matchup, as State College fits right in the middle. The Little Lions have dropped two in a row in low scoring games against Harrisburg and Cumberland Valley. The Trojans lost by 46 to Harrisburg last week and is looking to end the season on a high note. Expect a better effort this week but State College might just be too much.

Prediction: State College 35, Chambersburg 14

Waynesboro (2-7) at East Pennsboro (8-1)

The Indians had been competitive for much of the year, especially on offense, but they couldn't muster anything against the Greyhounds last week. This is not an easy matchup to end on, as the Panthers have a potent offense that'll be tough to stop. The Waynesboro offense should be able to get more going but it might not be enough.

Prediction: East Pennsboro 38, Waynesboro 21

Newport (0-9) at James Buchanan (1-8)

An opportunity for the Rockets to end the season on a high note. It's been a struggle, as they've given up over 40 points in six straight. It's also been a struggle for Newport, who is looking for its first win. Somebody will go into the offseason on a high note. Newport has shown to be more competitive in some of these games, so it might be due to end the season with a win.

Prediction: Newport 20, James Buchanan 14
