Wednesday regional games: Viera baseball advances, 4 softball teams fall in first round
Softball
Regional softball got started Wednesday night with four Brevard County teams playing games.
Eau Gallie was the only softball team to host a game Wednesday. The Commodores fell to Bishop Moore, 4-1, in the region 2-4A quarterfinals.
Bishop Moore gained the lead early in the game by scoring three runs in the second inning. The Hornets increased their lead after Megan LaMorte hit a home run in the fourth inning.
The Commodores got on the board in the fifth inning when a hit by Sarah Langlie allowed Jordan Stout to score a run. Eau Gallie ended its season with a record of 19-8 and as District 8-4A champions.
Eustis 12, Rockledge 2
Eustis defeated Rockledge, 12-2, in the region 4-2A quarterfinals. The Raiders closed their season with a record of 13-9.
Region 2-2A
Orlando Christian Prep 7, Melbourne Central Catholic 2
Melbourne Central Catholic lost to the top-seeded Orlando Christian Prep, 7-2, on the road in the first round of the Class 2A state tournament. The Hustlers finished the season with a 12-8 record and as District 8-2A champions.
Region 2-3A
Montverde Academy 8, Astronaut 4
Montverde Academy defeated Astronaut, 8-4, in the quarterfinals of the class 3A tournament. Astronaut closed its season as the District 8-3A champion and with a record of 15-10.
Baseball
Region 2-6A
Viera 4, Melbourne 2
Viera (20-5) advanced to the semifinals with a 4-2 win over Melbourne. The No. 2 Hawks will host No.6 Lake Minneola on May 13th at 7 p.m. Melbourne ended its season with a record of 16-8.
Adriel Torres drove in three runs on 2-for-3 hitting at the USSSA Complex. Dylan Jordan picked up the win, striking out seven Bulldogs in 4 1/3 innings. Camden Wicker earned a save.
