Watkins Memorial softball wins fourth consecutive regional title, Granville runner-up

Watkins Memorial beat Lancaster 5-0 on Friday to win its fourth consecutive Division I regional championship. Granville fell 6-2 to Kenton Ridge in a Division II regional final.

Watkins plays Anthony Wayne at 5:30 p.m. May 31 at Firestone Stadium in Akron.

The Warriors jumped on the Golden Gales in the first inning as Cortney Dobbs hit a three-run home run. They added single runs in the second and third innings on an RBI double for Kyliee Trouten and an RBI single for Kendal Tellings.

Carsyn Cassady struck out just five for Watkins, but her defense backed her in a four-hit shutout. Right fielder Grace Whitman made a lunging catch in the gap in right-center in the sixth inning and a running catch in deep right in the seventh.

After a scoreless first two innings, Kenton Ridge scored in four consecutive innings. The Blue Aces picked up a run in the bottom of the fourth inning after a Sophia Patena single and Megan Lodge double, and Avary King singled in a run in the sixth.

Ally Ernsberger struck out nine and allowed seven hits and two earned runs in her final game for the Blue Aces.
