Watertown, Aberdeen Central among 11 area teams playing for state-tournament berths

Eleven area teams, including Class AA Watertown and Aberdeen Central, will play in SoDak 16 state-qualifying games on Tuesday.

Sixteen teams each in Class AA, A and B will play in one-game matchups, with the winners qualifying for the state tournament May 30-June 1 at Aberdeen.

Watertown is the No. 9 seed in Class AA and visits No. 8 Brookings (107). Brookings won 11-7 in the regular-season matchup in Watertown.

Aberdeen is the No. 14 seed (4-14) and will visit No. 3 Sioux Falls Washington (14-3). The Golden Eagles and Warriors have not met this season.

Class A matchups include area schools Sioux Valley, Mobridge-Pollock and Sisseton. Area schools Castlewood, Deuel, Florence-Henry, Redfield, Arlington and Elkton-Lake Benton.

Defending state champion Castewood (No. 2 seed), Deuel (No. 7 seed) and Florence-Henry (No. 8 seed) are area teams set to play at home in Class B. Class A Sioux Valley (No. 7 seed) also will be at home.

Starting times (Central time) are now listed for most games.

No. 15 Pierre (3-18) at No. 2 Harrisburg (17-2), 7 p.m.

No. 10 Mitchell (8-11) at No. 7 O'Gorman (10-8), 5 p.m.

No. 13 Yankton (6-12) at No. 4 Sioux Falls Jefferson (15-5), 7 p.m.

No. 12 Sioux Falls Roosevelt (6-12) at No. 5 Brandon Valley (12-5), 5 p.m.

No. 14 Aberdeen Central (4-14) at No. 3 Sioux Falls Washington (14-3), 5 p.m.
