Watch South Carolina football's Xavier Legette return kickoff for 100-yard TD vs. Texas A&M

COLUMBIA — South Carolina football kicked off its home matchup against Texas A&M with a bang — literally.

On Texas A&M's (3-3, 1-2 SEC) opening kickoff at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday (7:30 p.m., SEC Network), South Carolina (4-2, 1-2) wide receiver Xavier Legette carried the ball 100 yards to the opposite end zone for a Gamecocks touchdown. It was the team's first kickoff return for a touchdown since a 2017 return by now-San Francisco 49ers star Deebo Samuel.

Legette's return was also the second-longest in program history and the longest in the 21st century. He is second only to a 104-yard return by South Carolina legend Sterling Sharpe in 1985. Sharpe is one of five Gamecocks players to have their jersey retired.

South Carolina has never beaten Texas A&M in the eight-year history of the series. The Gamecocks are coming off of a defining 24-14 win at No. 18 Kentucky before their open week last week. The win was the first SEC road win and first ranked win of coach Shane Beamer's tenure.
