How to watch as No. 1 LSU baseball travels to take on Auburn for weekend series on the plains

LSU has been the unanimous No. 1 team in the country all year, but it hit a bit of a rough patch in the middle of the season. The Tigers dropped back-to-back midweek games and have dealt with some pitching injuries over the last month.

Though the latter remains a problem heading down the home stretch of the regular season, LSU (36-8, 15-5 SEC) has swept consecutive SEC opponents and now hits the road to take on Auburn (25-18-1, 9-12 SEC) for a three-game slate at Plainsman Park, which begins on Friday night.

It’s been an up-and-down season for the Tigers, but they enter this one with quite a bit of momentum after taking two of three against the No. 2 team in the country, South Carolina, on the road.

Here’s what you need to know as LSU looks to avoid becoming AU’s second-straight top-two victim this weekend.

Series History

LSU leads the all-time series, which dates back to 1907, by a 109-78 margin. The Tigers from the Bayou have won 21 of the last 29 contests in the series and seven of the last nine series. However, Auburn took a series in Baton Rouge last season, its first series win over LSU since 2018.

Quoting Coach Jay Johnson

“Auburn can swing the bat as well as anybody,” Johnson said in a release. “They have a really good lineup, really good top of the order. We’re going to have to pitch and defend well. (Auburn left-hander Tommy) Vail has thrown really well on Fridays, and they have guys with very good stuff out of the bullpen. Auburn is another great opponent; to me, all 10 of these SEC weekends are the same, meaning you have to play really well to win one game, let alone win a series.”

Injury Report

LSU is beginning to get back to full health, but it got some bad injury news this week as one of the top bullpen arms, Garrett Edwards, is set to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery to repair a torn UCL.
