WATCH: NFL’s feature on new Chiefs LB Nick Bolton

The Kansas City Chiefs’ top draft choice in the 2021 NFL draft is no stranger to overcoming adversity. Missouri LB Nick Bolton’s family has lived with a bend don’t break mentality since he was just a boy. At a young age, Bolton’s sister and idol, Jazmine Dunn, was diagnosed with a brain tumor that required life-saving surgery.

Bolton’s rise as an athlete and football player was inspired in many ways by Jazmine. She was a softball and basketball player, but her life was forever changed after her bout with cancer. Bolton wasn’t just playing football for himself, he was now playing for her.

The Bolton family later faced adversity again when cancer struck the matriarch of the family, Julanda. It was a difficult time, especially for Nick, but the family continued to persevere together. Now, Mrs. Bolton is five years cancer-free.

In a feature for NFL Network, former NFL fullback Michael Robinson interviewed Bolton, his sister and his parents about their family, their struggle and overcoming that adversity together. You can check out the feature at the top of the page.
