The No. 8 Miami Hurricanes women's basketball team won an all-Florida affair in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Now they take on the No. 1 overall seed, the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Miami (20-12 overall, 10-8 in conference play) finished eighth in the Atlantic Coast Conference, which boasted a couple of the best teams in the nation in North Carolina State and Louisville. They upset the Cardinals in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament, edging Louisville 61-59, and made it all the way to the final before losing to NC State 60-47.

USC (30-2, 15-1 in the SEC) didn't lose until Dec. 30 at Missouri, and didn't lose again until the SEC Tournament final vs. Kentucky. The Gamecocks, coached by Dawn Staley, boast one of the best players in the country in forward Aliyah Boston, a first-team All-American and the SEC player of the year.

To open their play in the Greensboro Region, the 'Canes beat No. 9 South Florida 78-66 on Friday. Kelsey Marshall, Miami's leading scorer on the season, scored 12 points. The Gamecocks made history in their 79-21 win over No. 16 Howard, allowing the fewest points in tournament history and holding the Bison to a tourney-record low 4 points in the first half.
