Washington Commanders at San Francisco 49ers: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 16 matchup

The 10-4 San Francisco 49ers locked up the NFC West with a win over divisional foe the Seattle Seahawks last week. They take on the 7-6-1 Washington Commanders who haven't had as much success against their divisional opponent, the New York Giants, the past two games.

The Commanders are still in the playoff hunt as all four teams from the NFC East could make the postseason. Head coach Ron Rivera is sticking with quarterback Taylor Heinicke who has thrown three touchdowns the past two weeks.

The 49ers don't have any options at quarterback, but Brock Purdy has thrown two touchdowns in each of his three games — all of which he won — since taking over for an injured Jimmy Garoppolo.

Safid Deen: 49ers 34, Commanders 14

The Brock Purdy train continues in San Francisco this week, as the 49ers take care of business against the Commanders to potentially gain some ground on the Eagles and Vikings for a Top 2 top seed in the NFC.

Taylor Heinicke had a lot of momentum going since he was named the starter and probably wants to bounce back after a tie and close loss to a divisional foe. But Brock Purdy is on his own "playing with something to prove" tour. And the 49ers defense, led by sack leader Nick Bosa, is no joke.

Jaylon Thompson: 49ers 24, Commanders 21

It's never easy heading to San Francisco on a short week. However, this is what faces the Commanders on Saturday. This could be a last-ditch effort for Washington and their playoff hopes. The 49ers should end those dreams as the legend of Brock Purdy continues to grow.
