Warriors rookie Jordan Bell trolls Bulls for trading him on draft night

Golden State Warriors power forward Jordan Bell is likely to haunt the Chicago Bulls for a long time.

The Bulls, you may remember, traded the pick for the 6-9 power forward on draft night this year to Golden State for cash considerations. Now in the midst of one of the worst seasons in franchise history, Chicago endured an evening of karma for opting to rebuild without the likes of Bell on its roster.

It wasn’t just that the Warriors hosted the Bulls on Friday night. It was that head coach Steve Kerr decided to give the rookie his first career start against the team that drafted him. (Kerr then sat back rather diabolically and watched the inevitable media freak out.)

What happened next was as predictable as it was enjoyable. Bell jumped up during the player introductions, flashed a money sign to mock the trade and proceeded to show the Bulls’ front office what it missed out on.

In 26 minutes of playing time, Bell racked up seven points on three-of-four shooting from the field to go with six rebounds, six blocks, four assists and two steals. The Warriors won easily, 143-94.

“I wanted to see how cash considerations was playing over there,” Bell told the Chicago Tribune post game.

Every stat was another deliberate dagger by Bell. He confirmed as much after the blowout.

“At first I was thinking of all types of things to troll the other team,” Bell said when asked for his thoughts on starting. “As I got closer to the game, I started to focus on the game, try to win it. And then when I saw we won, I started to do some of it.”

The Tribune’s K.C. Johnson pointed out to Bell how much fans in Chicago are tracking his development. Bell’s response may have inadvertently upset them even more.

“I think it’s just fans being fans,” Bell said. “(The Bulls) were in a rebuild, so I guess I would’ve probably helped them win a little bit more than they wanted to. I take it as a positive.”

Bell may have a point there. Chicago is 3-14 to start the year. Those cash considerations haven’t paid off just yet.
