Warren Moon says ‘good possibility’ Texans trade QB Deshaun Watson to the Jets

If the Houston Texans aren’t a great destination for three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson, then which NFL team is?

According to Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon, who played for the Houston Oilers from 1984-93, the New York Jets could be a team that makes sense for the former 2017 first-round pick.

“The Jets are a place where they definitely have the assets to be able to make a trade,” Moon told TMZ via Gary Phillips of the Jets Wire. “They would make it worthwhile for the Texans as well, but the Jets might be a little further away as far as being a winner, but I still think they’re a good possibility.”

The Jets haven’t been to the playoffs since 2010 when they qualified as an 11-5 wild-card. New York has hired three coaches since dismissing Rex Ryan, who was coach from 2009-14. The latest man on the sidelines is Robert Saleh, former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator, who was one of Watson’s favorites for the Texans’ job. However, Saleh never received an interview.

Watson would also going from the No. 8 TV market in the country to the absolute top; the off-the-field possibilities to grow his brand would be endless.

Said Moon: “You’re going to a huge media capital where you can make a lot more money off the field,. And then I think with Robert Saleh as their new head coach, I think they’re going to be a solid football team here in the next couple of years.”

The compensation would have to be worked out between the two sides, given that Houston general manager Nick Caserio has finally given up the ghost to deal Waston. As of Jan. 29, Caserio has said the organization has “zero interest” to trade Watson. However, if the club moves on from Watson, the Jets would have to be one of the teams in the sweepstakes.
