Warren County releases 2023 football schedule

Jul. 7—WARRENTON — Warren County High School finalized its football schedule for the 2023 campaign, becoming the third and final local program to do so.

The Eagles will compete in a nine-game schedule, including a seven-game league slate in the Tar Roanoke Conference.

In what has become an annual tradition, Warren County opens up the campaign against Vance County on Aug. 18 in another addition of the County Line Clash. The Vipers will play host to the Eagles, who will look for their first win over the non-conference foe after four straight losses.

A week later, Warren County returns home to round out their non-conference slate against J.F. Webb. The Eagles are 7-4 all-time against the Warriors and currently riding a three-game winning streak in the series.

They will open up Tar Roanoke play on Sept. 1 in a road contest against Wilson Prep. The two programs met for the first time last season, with the Tigers earning a 42-14 victory.

A matchup with Northwest Halifax on Sept. 8 will close out a two-game road trip for Warren County, as they seek their 10th straight win against the Vikings. Their 13 wins all-time against Northwest Halifax marks their most against a single opponent in program history.

The Eagles will then host Weldon on Sept. 15 in what is the start of a four game home-stand. On a day that will rival college football for Warrenton residents, they will take on KIPP Pride on Saturday, Sept. 23, their lone weekend contest of the season.

Matchups with Northampton County and Rocky Mount Prep round out the month-long homestand, while the matchup with the Jaguars signals the start of October.

Warren County will hit the road once again for the season finale on Oct. 13, when they battle with Southeast Halifax. They are 1-2 all-time against the Spartans and will look to start a winning streak against the conference opponent, after securing a 44-42 win in 2022.

Their bye week will coincide with what will serve as the season finale for most programs across the state, giving them a much-needed break prior to the postseason.

The Eagles maintain a winning record over five of their nine opponents, giving them a reason for confidence heading into the 2023 season.

Coming off their most successful season in recent memory, they earned a 7-5 record overall and a place in the second round of the NCHSAA Playoffs.

With head coach V.J. Hunt returning for his fifth season at the helm, Warren County appears primed for another successful campaign.
