Warbirds hockey downs Wisconsin Valley Union; Springs, Oakfield girls hoops pick up non-conference wins

A look at Monday's high school sports action throughout the area.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

St. Mary's Springs 42, Roncalli 35

FOND DU LAC - The Ledgers (7-9, 2-6 Flyway) picked up a non-conference victory over the Jets (5-10, 3-5 Eastern Wisconsin).

Jasline Loynes led Springs with a game-high 13 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Lauren Stangel scored 12 points and had five rebounds with three assists and seven steals to lead Roncalli.

Oakfield 70, Mayville 25

OAKFIELD - The Oaks (12-2, 6-1 Trailways-East) blew out the Cardinals (3-12, 2-5 Flyway) to earn a non-conference win.

Jorja Hofman scored 23 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Oakfield. Stella Hofman added 18 points and Alexis Leibenow chipped in with 12 for the Oaks.

Berlin 67, Lomira 58

LOMIRA - Berlin (10-7, 3-4 East Central) picked up a non-conference victory over the Lions (9-8, 4-4 Flyway).

Emma Boegh tied a school record held by Jenna Sternitske (2021) and Mari Beltran (2017) by pouring in seven three-pointers for a game-high 21 points to lead Berlin.

Claire Bartol and Callie Kurczek each added 17 points apiece. Bartol led the team with eight rebounds and Kurczek grabbed seven boards.

Addison Zahn led Lomira with 17 points, including five threes, and Piersten Litterick followed with 10 for the Lions.

Ripon 60, Campbellsport 22

CAMPBELLSPORT - The Tigers (7-10, 2-4 East Central) made easy work of the Cougars (1-13, 0-7 Flyway) to pick up a non-conference victory on the road.

Karsyn Bauman led Ripon with 19 points, six steals and a pair of blocks. Ellerie Rost added 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and Adalin Nodolf had 13 for the Tigers.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Warbirds 6, Wisconsin Valley Union 3

WAUPACA - The Warbirds (12-5-1, 4-2-1 Eastern Shores) did most of their damage right away, pouring five goals on Wisconsin Valley Union (6-10, 0-5) in the opening period.

Kayla Dogs got things started with her fourth goal of the season, scored on the power play and assisted by Kendra Dogs, to give the Warbirds a 1-0 lead eight minutes in. Dogs has now scored in three of the last four games for the Warbirds.

Lily Cichy tied it up for WVU five minutes later, but then it took only 20 seconds for the Warbirds to respond with their goal parade afterward.

Maddy Gilson, Allison Waara, and Kristi Binder all scored goals within the next minute of gameplay and Waara added a second goal for good measure two minutes after that to make it 5-1 at the end of the first period.

Callie Rottman, Kayla Dogs and Amanda Kabat all collected assists in the first period, as well, and Ella Getz pushed the Warbirds' lead to 6-1 on an assist from Kabat in the second period.

Amelia Castleberg and Cichy closed out the scoring for WVU with goals in the third, assisted by Jai Dee Menge and Jenna Jones.

Emma Jillig had 23 saves for the Warbirds while Kylin Wright made 16 saves and Issie Wojcik allowed four goals for WVU.
