Wakulla football beats NFC, remain undefeated with one game left | Week 9 scores

The War Eagles continue to fly.

Wakulla remains undefeated this season, beating North Florida Christian 42-21 Friday to move to 9-0. Senior quarterback Haden Klees threw for four touchdowns and ran for two, with Samron Brinson hauling in two touchdowns and Nehemiah Chandler and Jeremiah Thomas both scoring one a piece.

Friday's game was a personal one for Wakulla head coach Scott Klees, who attended NFC. He knew it was going to be a battle, pointing to the Eagles' strengths.

"We knew this was gonna be a tough game and this is family, this is where I went to school," Klees said. "We needed this game. We needed this war, and it was a great, great game and we're fortunate to come out on top."

Tied at 21 at halftime, Wakulla made an emphasis to run the ball more aggressively in the second half. It helped the War Eagles scored 21 unanswered points to pull away for the win.

"We were really shooting ourselves in the foot by just doing little things like lining up wrong or not running the right route, or just me, I was off a little bit in the first half," Haden Klees said. "We got it right, coaches did a great job with adjustments in the second half and we came out and did what we were supposed to do."

Last season, Klees missed NFC's 38-35 win over his team due to a shoulder injury, The senior said having to sit on the sidelines and watch his team lose was something that was on his mind all season.

"It was the worst feeling ever last year, to be on the sideline and see some things that I couldn't do anything about, it hurt," Klees said. "I hate to lose more than I love to win. I really haven't forgotten about that loss. I've been counting the days for this."

A chance at perfection

Klees felt Friday's win was crucial for Wakulla ahead of its season finale against Suwannee next week. With the winner of the game being crowned 2S District 4 champions, Klees wants his team to give everything in the final regular season game.

"We got to go over to Suwannee, which is a very tough place to play and they are a very well-coached team," Klees said. "We are going to get their max effort and they're going to get our max effort, it's going be another game like this one [vs. NFC], just a flat-out war."

Scott Klees feels his team hasn't played a bad game all season, with some bad stretches during games being corrected with in-game adjustments. He thinks his team is headed in the right direction as its chase for a state championship continues.

"These guys are buying into getting better each day, and there's been no bad game, we might have spurts that we played bad, but we are doing well," Klees said. "I like where we're at and I like where we're heading."

Heading into the Suwannee matchup, much like the game against NFC, Haden Klees hasn't forgotten about last season's loss to the Bulldogs.

"Suwanne has a great team, we're gonna have to bring our A game," Haden Klees said. "I feel they will give us the best test we've seen this year and it's a district game. They beat us last year and I haven't forgotten that. We're gonna be ready for them, believe that."
