VOTING OPEN: Who should be The Huntsville Item Player of the Week for Week 5?

Sep. 24—HUNTSVILLE — It was a quiet week on the football front for Walker County for Week 5. Huntsville was the lone team to hit the gridiron as New Waverly and Alpha Omega Academy both had open weeks. Now one thing is left, who should be The Huntsville Item Player of the Week, presented by Pizza Hut?

The Hornets hit the field as the only show on turf for the town and they impressed. Huntsville's run game clicked and its offense exploded for 489 yards and six scores. The Hornet defense was stellar once again as they grabbed three interceptions against Montgomery. The Hornets grabbed the 44-27 win over the Bears to move to 1-0 in District 10-5A, DII play.

The nominees for football are: Huntsville's Trae'Shawn Brown, Jacob Ruffin and Joseph Mejia.

Trae'shawn Brown, sophomore, RB: Brown was the biggest factor for the Hornets against Montgomery. He racked up 252 yards on the ground and scored four of the six Hornet touchdowns. His longest rush was 54 yards.

Jacob Ruffin, senior, DB: Ruffin has been a mainstay in the Huntsville secondary. The senior hauled in one of the Hornets' interceptions before an injury sidelined him for the rest of the game.

Joseph Mejia, senior, K: Mejia handled all the kicking for Huntsville as he went 3-5 on PATs. He also drilled a 34-yard field goal for Huntsville to help build their lead. Mejia also had one punt that went 36 yards.

Voting will be open from Sunday at 8 a.m. to Monday at noon.

Walker County volleyball saw all three teams his the court. Huntsville opened its distrcit play on Saturday while both New Waverly and Alpha Omega Academy continued to fight through their district schdule.

This weeks nominees are: Huntsville's Chelsea Butler, New Waverly's Addison Bostick and AOA's Brianna Greer.

Chelsea Butler, senior, MH: Butler continued to be on a tear offensively. She added 21 kills against Lufkin which bumped her weekly total to 35 kills. She had eight blocks and three service aces in the two games.

Addison Bostick, freshman: Bostick rallied for 17 kills and 20 digs for New Waverly. She continued to be a multi-dimensional player for the Lady Dogs.

Brianna Greer — senior — libero: In the Lady Lions two games, Greer racked up 20 digs. Against First Baptist, she added seven aces and completed the week with a passing percentage of 83.
