Voting is now open for the Breathe Free Duct Cleaning Athlete of the Week

The 2023-24 winter sports season is upon us here in Branch County, and with the winter comes a bevy of indoor sports, including boys' and girls' basketball, wrestling, swim and dive, gymnastics, competitive cheer, and bowling.

Early in week one we here at The Daily Reporter would like to honor a couple of big efforts to kick off the season, so without further ado voting is now open for the first Breathe Free Duct Cleaning Athlete of the Week for the winter sports season.

Only the sport of boys' basketball saw any action in week one, hence the three basketball nominees, however the potential nominees from here on out is limitless as teams and sports across the state kick into high gear.

So here we go folks, our first nominees for the Breathe Free Duct Cleaning Athlete of the Week, brought to you by The Daily Reporter

Nominees for week 1: 

Kam Brackett, Bronson basketball

Brackett, a junior, took over the point guard duties at Bronson this year and has been on absolute fire over the first week of the year. Brackett has back-to-back 30-point games as he has helped the Vikings to a quick 2-0 start to the season. Brackett started the season with a 30 point, 8 rebound, 6 assist and 8 steal effort in Bronson’s 66-48 win over St. Phil, followed up by an equally impressive 30 point, 7 rebound, 3 assists and 5 steal effort in the Vikings’ 53-47 win over Pennfield this past Friday.

Ayden Dirschell, Coldwater basketball

Dirschell started off the 2023-24 season on a torrid pace, not missing a beat from last year where he proved to be one of Coldwater’s best as just a sophomore. Dirschell kicked off the season with a big game in a tough 78-56 loss to Portage Central, scoring 27 points to go with 9 rebounds and 4 assists. To cap off a busy first week DIrschell recorded a big double-double in the Cardinals 62-51 loss to Gull Lake on Friday, pouring in 12 points to go with 11 rebounds. DIrschell also added 8 assists and 4 steals in the loss.

Brandon Miner, Quincy basketball

Miner led Quincy in their 42-36 season opening loss to Grass Lake, pouring in 12 points to go with 9 rebounds.
