RESULTS: Who was Gastonia, Shelby area's midseason basketball players of the year?

At the start of the basketball season, The Gaston Gazette and Shelby Star conducted fan Preseason Player of the Year polls, with Hunter Huss’ Myla Hoover and Bradley Floyd of Kings Mountain taking top honors.

Now, here are results for The Gaston Gazette and Shelby Star poll recognizing the area's top boys and girls players at midseason.

Here are the boys basketball nominees, followed by those on the girls side.

Boys basketball

Bradley Floyd, Kings Mountain

Floyd earned midseason player of the year honors after earning 49.4% of votes. At the midseason point, he averaged 17.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game.

Other nominees included:

  • Isaac Byers Jr., Ashbrook: Leads the Green Wave in points (20.2), rebounds (6.2), assists (5.4) and steals (3.9) per game.

  • Deshawn Coulter, Gaston Day: The Spartans’ sophomore standout leads the team with 14.5 points per game.

  • Jackson Fannon, East Lincoln: The Mustangs’ 6-foot-7 sharpshooter is hitting 47% of shots from 3-point range, helping him average 22.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

  • Kelan Flowers, Lincoln Charter: Averaging 16.1 points and four assists for the Eagles this season.

  • Christan Jones, Mountain Island Charter: The Raptors’ freshman sensation is averaging 22.6 points per game this season.

  • Kellen Karr, North LIncoln: Averaging just short of a double-double with 16.8 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, along with 5.8 assists and 2.6 steals.

  • Cam Newman, Gaston Christian: Averaging 15.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists this season.

  • King Rhodes, Crest: The Chargers’ sophomore is averaging a double-double with 17.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

  • Elijah Sherrill, Highland Tech: Averaging 20 points and just shy of seven rebounds per game.

  • Trent Sherrill, East Gaston: Averaging a career-high 21.7 points per game for the Warriors.

  • L.J. Smith, Lincolnton: The 6-foot-4 freshman is among the state’s top scorers with 32.2 points per game, along with 7.6 rebounds and 2.4 steals.

Girls basketball

Addie McCraw, Highland Tech

The Lady Rams' senior standout received 41% of the overall vote to take midseason player of the year honors. At midseason, she was averaging a double-double with 12.6 points and 14.6 rebounds per game.

Other nominees included:

  • Kiara Anderson, East Lincoln: Leading the Lady Mustangs in points (21.1) and assists (5.5), along with 6.2 rebounds and 4.7 steals per game.

  • Amya Graham, South Point: Averaging a double-double, with career-highs in points (19.6) and rebounds (15.6) per game.

  • Oshauna Holland, Stuart Cramer: The Storm’s sophomore standout is averaging just shy of a double-double with 26.8 points and 9.2 rebounds, along with 6.8 steals and 5.3 assists.

  • Kallie Lusk, Lincoln Charter: Shooting 54% from the field en route to scoring a team-high 12.5 points per game.

  • Emma Montanari, East Lincoln: Averaging 19.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 6.2 steals and 4.2 assists per game.

  • Amani Neely, Forestview: Averaging a team-high 14.8 points per game this season.

  • Tionna Pettus, Bessemer City: Averaging a double-double with 23.3 points and 11.5 rebounds, along with 3.8 steals and 2.4 assists.

  • Kionna Pettus, Bessemer City: Averaging a double-double with 21.3 points and 12.1 rebounds, along with 5.1 assists, 4.7 steals and 3.8 blocks.

  • Ally Smith, North Lincoln: Scoring a team-high 16 points per game, along with 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 steals and 4.5 assists per game.

  • Monica Surratt, Crest: Scoring a team-high 15 points per game, along with 5.4 rebounds and 2.4 steals.

  • Brooklyn Swann, Hunter Huss: Averaging a double-double with 17.1 points and 11.1 rebounds, along with 3.9 assists and 1.9 blocks per game.
