Smithsburg's Jenna Howe and Michael Wynkoop voted Athletes of the Week

Smithsburg indoor track runners Jenna Howe and Michael Wynkoop were voted The Herald-Mail’s Washington County Athletes of the Week for Jan. 29-Feb. 3.

The voting was conducted online Monday morning through noon Thursday.

Howe, a junior, earned the girls honor with 40.65% of the vote (298 votes). She won the 55 in 7.61 seconds and the 300 in 42.75 seconds at the county championships, helping the Leopards win the team title for the third straight year.

Wynkoop, a sophomore, was the boys winner with 48.32% of the vote (330 votes). At the county championships, he placed first in the 800 (2:10.21) and 3,200 (10:24.86) and finished second in the 1,600 (4:40.72).

The other boys nominees were North Hagerstown’s Will Bonds (basketball) and St. Maria Goretti’s Jarvis Wright (basketball).

The other girls nominees were South Hagerstown’s Riley Troxell (indoor track and field) and Broadfording’s Tiki Koontz (basketball).
