Vote for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week

Ten athletes from across the High Desert are in the running for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week.

Daily Press readers can vote for their favorite high school athletes at the newspaper's website.

The poll closes on Wednesday night.

Here are the choices for the week, based on performances from March 11 to 17.

Prep Baseball: Top 104 players to watch as the 2024 season is underway

  • Arlan Koester, Hesperia Christian baseball — Arlan racked up six hits and nine RBIs over three games for the Patriots. On March 11, Arlan went 3 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs in a 21-8 victory over Silver Valley. The following day, Arlan started on the mound in a 14-0 victory over AAE and struck out six batters and allowed four hits in four innings. He also cranked a two-run home run to go 1 for 1 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs. On March 14, Arlan went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run in a 4-3 victory over West Covina.

  • Beau Lloyd, Apple Valley baseball — Beau hit a home run in each of the two victories for the Sun Devils. He went deep in a 14-3 victory over Serrano on March 13. He went 2 for 4 with four RBIs, two runs and a stolen base. On March 15, Beau started against Hesperia and allowed six hits and struck out five batters over five innings and was charged with two earned runs. At the plate, Beau ended 2 for 3 with a home run, four RBIs, a run and a stolen base as Apple Valley beat Hesperia 11-9.

  • Chris Espinoza, Adelanto baseball — Chris continued his hot start to the season in two victories for the Saints. On March 12, Espinoza went  3 for 4 with two RBIs and three stolen bases as the Saints rallied to beat Granite Hills 6-3. Chris was nearly unhittable on March 14 as Adelanto beat Silverado 3-0. He struck out 14 batters, allowed one hit and walked two over seven innings. At the plate we went 2 for 3, with a two-run triple.

  • Dani Jackman, University Prep softball — Dani had a big day at the plate with five RBIs in a 16-5 victory over Hesperia on March 13. Dani ended 2 for 2 with a home run and a double. On March 15, University Prep beat San Gorgonio 4-0 with Dani drawing two walks and scoring a run.

  • Jacob Webster, Oak Hills baseball — Jacob helped the Bulldogs to three victories as he racked up seven hits in those games. On March 13, Oak Hills beat Sultana 13-6 and Jacob went 3 for 3 with a RBI, two runs and two stolen bases. In a 10-7 victory over Burroughs on March 15, Jacob went 2 for 4 with a RBI and two runs. He ended the week going 2 for 3 with a triple, RBI, two runs and two stolen bases, along with three scoreless and hitless innings on the mound in an 8-3 victory over Palmdale on March 16.

  • Kayla Berg, Academy for Academic Excellence softball — Kayla racked up 10 hits over three victories for the Knights. Kayla began the week by going 3 for 4 with a home run, four RBIs, four runs and two stolen bases in a 17-7 victory over Adelanto on March 11. The following day, Kayla led the offense by going 4 for 5 with a home run, four RBIs, three runs and a stolen base in a 15-3 victory over Academy of Careers & Exploration. Kayla followed that up by going 3 for 4 with four RBIs and a run in an 8-7 victory over Hesperia Christian on March 13.

  • Marley Zamora, Barstow softball — Marley had a big week over five games for the Aztecs last week. Marley went 1 for 3 with a triple, four RBIs and a stolen base in a 14-3 victory over Victor Valley on March 11, and then went 1 for 2 with a home run, four RBIs and a run in an 8-0 victory over California City on March 14. In a 10-1 victory over Mira Monte on March 16, Marley went 2 for 3 with two runs. In the second game of a double-header, Marley pitched five innings and allowed a run on three hits, to go along with two strikeouts. Marley went 1 for 3 with a run and a stolen base in a 14-1 victory over Kern Valley.

  • Mia Vazquez, Granite Hills softball — Mia helped lead the way to two victories for the Cougars last week. Mia went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and also struck out four batters over five innings in a 14-0 victory over Adelanto on March 12. In a 20-2 victory over Victor Valley on March 14, Mia led the offensive charge as she went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and a run.

  • Rafael Cabrera, Victor Valley baseball — Rafael drove in six runs to lead the Jackrabbits to a 13-6 victory over Barstow on March 12. Aside from the six RBIs, Rafael ended with three hits. Rafael added three more hits, going 3 for 4 with a run, in a 6-2 loss to Granite Hills on March 14.

  • Samantha Conan, Serrano softball — Samantha helped lead the Diamondbacks to two victories last week. On March 12, she went 2 for 3 with a run in a 4-1 victory over Eisenhower. She followed that up with a big performance in the circle against Hesperia in the Mojave River League opener. Samantha struck out 15 batters and allowed one earned run over seven hits in a 12-3 victory.  At the plate, Samantha went 3 for 5 with three RBIs and a stolen base.

Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week's games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.
