South Bend Washington's Gabe Weber wins Tribune Football Player of the Week poll

Congratulations to South Bend Washington junior quarterback Gabe Weber for winning this week's South Bend Tribune Football Player of the Week poll for games played on Oct. 20.

Weber edged out NorthWood senior Owen Roeder to win the vote. Weber received 10,898 of the 34,056 votes to win the poll.

Weber had a strong performance against Plymouth, throwing for 234 yards and three touchdowns in a 43-28 win over the Rockies in a Class 4A, Sectional 18 opening-round game.

Runner-up: NorthWood senior quarterback Owen Roeder

A non-running back! Roeder diced up Saint Joseph's defense through the air Friday, completing 18-of-23 passes for 321 yards and four touchdowns in a 52-10 win to begin Class 4A, Sectional 18 action for the Panthers.

Other nominees

LaVille junior running back Cody Allen

Allen rushed the ball 36 times for 138 yards and two touchdowns in a 25-23 win over Andrean in a Class 2A, Sectional 33 quarterfinal contest.

New Prairie sophomore running back Reed Robinson

Robinson had the best game of his young career, rushing for 179 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-14 win over Hobart in a Class 4A, Sectional 17 opening game.

Niles senior running back Julian Means-Flewellen

In a game where three Vikings running backs had more than 100 rushing yards each, Means-Flewellen stood out above the crowd. He only ran the ball eight times, but accumulated 218 yards on those carries and three touchdowns in a 56-18 win over Paw Paw to win the Wolverine Conference championship.

Northridge senior running back McClain Miller

The Raiders leaned on the North Dakota State commit to the tune of 210 yards rushing and three touchdowns in a 39-3 win over Logansport in a Class 4A, Sectional 18 quarterfinal contest.
