ATHLETE OF THE WEEK POLL
Avery Kita, Charlevoix golf
Charlevoix is heading to the Division 4 state finals in golf and Kita played a big role in getting the Rayders there. She shot a 92 during the Rayders’ regional round last week, good for fourth best among everyone in the regional, while helping Charlevoix to a runner-up finish.
Joe McCarthy, Petoskey football
On a night when the traditional run game wasn’t working, McCarthy stepped up to help PHS to a win, going 9 of 15 passing for 179 yards and two scores, then added 13 carries for 63 yards and two scores.
Landon Jakeway, Harbor Light soccer
Jakeway helped Harbor Light Christian secure a postseason win a week ago with a two-goal performance against Big Bay de Noc on the road. It advanced the Swordsmen into the district semi round and gave them their 11th win for the year.
Logan Shooks, East Jordan football
Take about a night. Shooks helped EJ earn an unbeaten league title by catching the game-tying score with 1.3 seconds left on the clock, then added the two-point play for the win. He finished with 89 yards rushing and a touchdown, five catches for 63 yards and a touchdown and 10 tackles defensively.
Aubrey Burns, Boyne City volleyball
Burns continued to be a solid piece within the Rambler lineup and celebrated her senior night with a victory over Harbor Springs, totaling 13 digs, 3 aces, 2 assists and 14 serve receptions.
Hunter Eaton, Charlevoix cross country
Eaton turned in a strong showing at the Lake Michigan Conference championships last week, finishing with a fifth place time of 17:10.6, which led for all area teams in just his freshman season.
AJ Speigl, Charlevoix football
Speigl was everywhere when the Rayders wrapped up a league title Saturday. He rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown, returned an interception 56 yards for a touchdown, had four tackles and caught a 30-yard reception.
