Jake Wacha voted North Jersey Wrestler of the Week for Feb. 5-11
After four days of voting, Pascack Hills senior Jake Wacha was selected as the North Jersey Wrestler of the Week.
Wacha secured his 100th win on Friday by pinning Pingry's Charles Levine in 3:21. The Columbia commit finished the week with five pins in five matches.
Here were the other nominees:
Nick Barone
Wayne Valley senior
Barone went 4-for-4 last week while helping the Indians become the first public school to win a sectional title as a seven seed. The 165-pounder was one of two Wayne Valley wrestlers to score in each state match along with Cole Perry.
Jack Bergmann
Lakeland senior
Bergmann became the fourth Lancer to hit 100 career wins on Saturday with a 24-second pin against Mahwah. The Navy commit took all three of his matches last week by fall.
Evan Krakower
River Dell senior
Krakower joined the Century Club on Saturday by pinning both his opponents in a tri-match at Becton. This year, the Golden Hawks' 120-pounder has wrestled to a 32-1 record.
Nick Laccitiello
Pompton Lakes senior
Laccitiello picked up his 100th career win on Saturday with the first of two first-period pins. The Cardinals 157-pounder is now 32-4 on the season with wins in his last 16 matches.
Justin Gaviria
Clifton junior
Gaviria came up big in the decisive final bout to send the Mustangs past Passaic Tech in the North 1, Group 5 final. He took down Justin Mayo at the end of sudden victory to complete a 6-4 decision and avenge two regular-season losses.
