James Conklin of Passaic Tech voted North Jersey Wrestler of the Week for Jan. 22-28
After four days of voting, Passaic Tech junior James Conklin was selected as the North Jersey Wrestler of the Week.
Conkin pushed the Bulldogs past Clifton for the Big North Liberty title by downing Jarvis Rodriguez, 13-2, in an early bout between county medalists. He won his other match last week by technical fall.
Here were the other nominees:
William Capizzi
Passaic Valley sophomore
Capizzi put the score out of reach on Friday when the Hornets beat Fair Lawn, 66-12, to clinch the outright division title and the program's 700th win. The 165-pounder decked all four opponents in the first period last week.
Rocco Dellagatta
St. Joseph junior
Dellagatta helped the Green Knights beat archrival Bergen Catholic on Friday by defeating Benjamin Shue, 2-1, in a battle between the top two heavyweights in the North Jersey rankings. He clinched victory in the last bout against Old Tappan by accepting an injury default while in the lead.
Cole Hughes
Emerson/Park Ridge senior
The Lehigh football commit bumped up to heavyweight and pinned county seventh Dante Downey on Friday when the Cavos knocked off previously-unbeaten Westwood. Hughes finished with three pins and a forfeit win last week while splitting time between 215 and 285.
Connor Scuilla
Hasbrouck Heights senior
Scuilla sent the Aviators to the NJIC final by pinning Pompton Lakes' James Knox in the final bout at 190 to complete a 38-35 win. It was part of a perfect week for Scuilla, who added a forfeit and three other pins.
Cooper Struble
Lakeland senior
The Lancers heavyweight came up with a walk-off pin in back-to-back matches against Wayne Valley and Ramapo. Struble put another six points on the board in his team's victory against New Milford.
