Noah Traverso voted North Jersey Track and Field Performer of the Week for May 20-26

After four days of voting, West Milford senior Noah Traverso was selected as the North Jersey Track and Field Performer of the Week.

What a meet for the TCNJ bound star, who won "just" one event at the Passaic County championships, the long jump with a jump of 22-1 1/2, just an inch from his coach's 22-year-old school record. He also had a PR in both in the 200 and 400 and lost the triple jump by five inches during three second place finishes.

Here were the other nominees:

Justin Griffin

Passaic sophomore

Griffin is a 1,000 yard running back on the football team who wanted to get faster and he joined the track team. It was a success as he won the Passaic County 100 meter dash, and took medals in the 200 and the 4-x-100 relay.

Kyle Keyes

Lakeland senior

The Bryant University recruit, won both the 110 and 400 meter hurdles at the Passaic County championships, the first Lakeland boy to accomplish that. He also tied the 26 year old school record of Brendan King in the 400 hurdles.

Kara Langbaum

Wayne Hills senior

The American University bound Langbaum won the 800 and 1,600 meters for the second straight year, bringing his Passaic County championships haul to eight, five outdoors and three indoors. She also placed fourth in the 3,200.

Jeancarlos Mendoza

Hawthorne senior

Mendoza, headed for Ramapo, won the 200 meters and took second in the 100 at the Passaic County championships and ran legs on the Bears' medal winning 4-x-100 and 4-x-400 teams, moving him into second place on the all-time Hawthorne list.

Calyse Villaneuva

Passaic Tech junior

Villaneuva edged closer to a pair of school records en route to becoming the only triple winner at the Passaic County championships. Her long jump of 17-9 is 3 1/2 inches short of the 2000 record and her triple jump of 37-6 3/4, is an even closer 1 1/4 inches short of the 2001 school mark. Villaneuva also won the pole vault.
