Natalie Song voted North Jersey Girls Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 29-Feb. 4
After four days of voting, Bergen Tech senior guard Natalie Song was selected as the North Jersey Girls Basketball Player of the Week.
Song put together her best week of the winter, averaging 12 points, 3 assists and 4 steals as the Knights went 3-1. That included a career-high 16 points (plus 5 assists) in a win over Mary Help and 6 steals in a 56-52 victory at New Milford, which was just one off her career high.
Here were the other nominees:
Zahniya Castillo
Kennedy sophomore forward
Castillo was key in helping the Knights run their win streak to six with victories over Passaic Tech, Passaic and Lakeland – the latter advanced her team to the Passaic County quarterfinals. She averaged 14.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.7 steals as Kennedy improved to 14-7.
Brooke Harper
Lyndhurst sophomore center
Harper had her best outing of the season in leading the Golden Bears to the Bergen Invitational Tournament semifinals: 29 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks against Leonia in Saturday’s quarterfinals. She averaged 19 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3 steals in three games for the week.
Olivia Isaacson
Wayne Valley senior guard
The Indians have won 4-of-5 to get their season back on track, and Isaacson now has five games of 30-plus points after collecting two last week. She followed up 34 at Lakeland and 30 at Fair Lawn with 23 in a victory over Eastern Christian that sent the Indians to the Passaic County quarterfinals.
Giulia Russo
Mary Help senior guard
The Blue Jays got back to .500 (5-5) with Russo averaging 11.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 steals in three games. She enjoyed one of her best all-around games of the season (17 points, 3 rebounds, 5 steals, 5-of-8 free throws) in a 38-18 win over previously unbeaten Hawthorne Christian (8-1).
Lyla Stokes
Waldwick sophomore guard/forward
Stokes powered the Warriors to the BIT semifinals, averaging 15 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 blocks in three victories. That included a stellar performance against Lodi in which she set or equaled season highs in rebounds (11) and steals (6) and a 16-point, 8-rebound game against rival Midland Park.
