Meet the Louisville-area high school girls athlete of the week from Sacred Heart soccer
Another big week for high school sports in the Louisville area has come and gone. Who do you think had the best performance?
Sacred Heart senior soccer standout Mary VonderHaar has earned the title of The Courier Journal's athlete of the week following her remarkable hat-trick performances on the pitch. VonderHaar scored three goals in the Valkyries' 10-0 27th District championship win against Atherton and netted three goals in Sacred Heart's Seventh Region opening round victory against Louisville Collegiate.

Sydney Dunn, Holy Cross, soccer
Holy Cross junior Sydney Dunn is having an outstanding 2023 postseason. Dunn scored a hat-trick in the Cougars' 7-0 21st District Championship win against Pleasure Ridge Park. The junior followed up the strong outing with another hat-trick and two assists to lead Holy Cross to an 8-0 Sixth Region Tournament win over Iroquois.
Mackenzie Kleitz, North Bullitt, volleyball
North Bullitt's MacKenzie Kleitz was all over the court for the Eagles last week. The senior earned a triple-double (15 kills, 20 assists and 15 digs) in the Eagles' 3-1 (29-31, 25-20, 25-18, 25-17) win against Atherton. Kleitz followed up the performance with another triple-double (16 kills, 11 assists and 21 digs) in North Bullitt's 3-2 (26-24, 25-15, 22-25, 23-25, 15-12) win over Thomas Nelson.
Julia May, Manual, field hockey
Manual senior Julia May had a big week on the field for the Crimsons. May scored a hat-trick in Manual's 5-1 win over South Oldham. The senior also netted a goal in the Crimsons' 11-0 win against Holy Cross and in Manual's 3-2 win against Huron.
Mary VonderHaar, Sacred Heart, soccer
Sacred Heart senior Mary VonderHaar scored a hat-trick in the Valkyries' 10-0 27th District championship win against Atherton. VonderHaar continued to dominate the pitch by scoring another hat-trick in Sacred Heart's Seventh Region opening round victory, 7-0, against Louisville Collegiate.
Keira Yun, Sacred Heart, golf
Last week, freshman Keira Yun helped lead the Sacred Heart Academy golf team to its first state championship in six years. Yun led the first round after shooting a 5-under 67, then went on to shoot a 75 the following day, finishing the tournament a shot back at 142. The Valkyries went on to win their 12th state golf title.
