Vote for the final Herald News Player of the Month for June 4-18

FALL RIVER — Greater Fall River athletes recently concluded another great season of high school sports.

Here's your chance to vote for the top stars during tournament from this past month.

This final poll includes baseball, softball, and track. There will be one male and one female named as winners. It ends on July 1. Don't wait — vote now.

Case's Jackson McLane won the Male Player of the Week for May 29-June 4 (79%) while Diman's Grace Flattery was named the Female Player of the Week (14%).

Each week during the high school season, The Herald News will conduct a Player of the Week poll.

Here are the nominees for the week of June 6-18:

BASEBALL

Owen Derocher, SBR

Derocher had a big send-off in his final game as he was 2-for-2 and scored both Raiders runs in the Division II Round of 16 against Whitman-Hanson.

Jon Lynch, SBR

Jon went the distance for the Raiders in the Division II Round of 32 game against Nashoba. He allowed just five hits while striking out six batters.

Luke Thornton, SBR

Thorton was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in the Division II Round of 16 game against Whitman-Hanson.

Shawn Lavoie, Westport

Lavoie pitched a great game for the Wildcats, going 6.1 innings against Mount Everett. He gave up two hits, two runs (both unearned), walked one, and struck out six.

Cam Leary, Westport

Leary drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh to help 10th seeded Wildcats walkoff with win against Mount Everett in the Division V Round of 32.

SOFTBALL

Hailey Berube, Case

Berube slugged two home runs in the Division IV Round of 32 game against Cohasset. She also collected five postseason wins in the circle, including the championship game against Hampshire Regional.

Skye Dupre, Case

Dupre's hit a grounder off the shortstop and the ball bounced away, allowing Cardinal teammate Lexi Yost to score the winning run in the Division IV state semifinal game against Archbishop Williams. She also had a pair of doubles against Advanced Math & Science.

Breanna Fontes, Case

Fontes had three hits, including a pair of home runs in the Division IV Round of 32 game against Cohasset.

Brooke Orton, Case

Orton crushed a grand slam in the Division IV state final against Hampshire Regional, which proved to be the winning run. She also played flawless in the field throughout the playoffs.

Olivia Silva, Case

Silva went 4-for-4 at the plate for the Cardinals, including a pair of doubles in the Division IV Round of 32 game against Cohasset. She also threw out several base runners on defense.

Megan Smith, Case

Smith had a double and triple for the Cardinals in the Division IV Final Four game against Uxbridge. She also added a pair of hits in the state final against Hampshire Regional.

Makenzie Jacob, SBR

Jacob finished the day against Leominster by going 4-for-4, including two doubles and two RBI in the Division II Round of 16 contest. She also went 2-for-4 with a double, two walk and two important RBI in extra innings against Billerica.

Gabriella Nugent, SBR

Nugent had a pair of solo home runs and two RBI for the Raiders in a dramatic win over Leominster. She also went 3-for-6 against Billerica and had a home run in the program's first Final Four appearance against Tewksbury.

Tatum Swanson, SBR

Swanson spun a complete-game, three-hitter for the Raiders in her first postseason start in their Division II Round of 32 victory against Westwood. She won three postseason games, including an upset win over Billerica.

TRACK

Grace Flattery, Diman

Flattery recently competed in the New Balance Nationals at UPenn in Philadelphia and finished 22nd in the country in the high jump event. She landed a jump of 5' 1.5".
