Vote for the DC Roofing 321preps Athlete of the Week for Sept. 18-23
It is time again to vote for the DC Roofing 321preps Athlete of the Week at 321preps.com and floridatoday.com. With 17 nominees, this is the largest ballot so far for the FLORIDA TODAY recognition.
The following athletes were nominated for their performances from Sept. 18-23. You will find the ballot at the bottom of the page. Be sure to refresh if the poll isn't visible upon first loading. Voting will be open until noon on Thursday this week.
Last week's winner was Gavin Kirby of Edgewood swimming. Find a list of the 2023-24 winners at the bottom of this page.
Coaches and athletic directors are invited to nominate athletes each week. E-mail the athlete's accomplishments for the previous Monday through Saturday to bmccallum@floridatoday.com by 10 a.m. each Monday.
Here are this week's nominees:
Jayvan Boggs, Cocoa football
Boggs caught seven passes for 103 yards with a long of 32 yards on Friday, scoring two touchdowns in the Tigers win over Eau Gallie.
Jaxson Brookshier, Titusville swimming
Brookshier won the 200-yard freestyle in two meets last week with a time of 1:52.02 against Edgewood and Satellite.
Olivia Buelow, Brevard Heat swimming
Buelow won the 500 freestyle in 7:03.82, the 200 individual medley in 3:06.02 and swam on winning 200 medley and 200 free relays against Calvary Chapel.
Kyra Davis, Heritage volleyball
Davis recorded 20 kills with 13 digs in a victory over Space Coast on Thursday.
Bode Handwork, Merritt Island Christian football
Handwork scored a rushing touchdown and passed for two more Friday while also making a team-high 10 tackles and intercepting a pass in a win over Geneva.
Ian Harmon, Edgewood bowling
Harmon bowled a game of 245 on Tuesday at Merritt Island Shore Lanes and followed with a 269 on Wednesday. His season average is 248.6.
Annabelle Jones, Merritt Island volleyball
Jones recorded four aces and 21 assists in the win over Edgewood on Monday and added six aces, nine digs and 17 assists against Rockledge on Wednesday.
Shane Kinsey, Astronaut cross country
Kinsey placed second at the Hagerty Invitational in Oviedo on Saturday with a time of 16:13.72 for 5,000 meters.
D.J. McCormick, Rockledge football
McCormick recorded 12 tackles, eight of them solo, and he forced two fumbles in a win at Kissimmee Osceola on Thursday.
Jaeden McMillan, Holy Trinity football
McMillan caught nine passes for 154 yards and scored twice in a road win at Father Lopez. He also made three tackles and intercepted a pass.
Paul Roach, Bayside bowling
Roach bowled a game of 289 on Thursday at River Lanes against Pineapple Cove.
Mikey Schmidt, Viera football
Schmidt came off the bench following an injury and finished with five tackles and interception, which he returned 40 yards for a touchdown.
Carson Sisler, Cocoa Beach golf
Sisler shot a 2-under-par 33 Tuesday on the Cocoa Beach Country Club Dolphin Course and 2-under 34 on the Lakes Course on Thursday.
Brooke Street, Space Coast bowling
Street bowled a game of 256 on Tuesday at Merritt Island Shore Lanes against Cocoa.
Ivy Taylor, Cocoa Beach volleyball
Taylor recorded two blocks and 22 assists in a Monday victory over Rockledge.
Johnny Wright, Melbourne football
Wright recorded 22 tackles, half of them unassisted, in the Bulldogs' overtime road win on Friday.
Brooke Yates, Merritt Island cross country
Yates won the Rockledge Cross Country Classic on Saturday with a time of 18:33.32 for 5,000 meters, a win of more than 40 seconds.
