Playoff football: Windsor hosting, Wellington stays local and Fossil grabs final 5A spot

If you have nominations for a future Athlete of the Week, please send them via email to ChrisAbshire@coloradoan.com for consideration.

The following athletes were nominated for their performances last week:

  • Isabel Allori, Liberty Common cross-country: The Eagles senior capped her career with a repeat state championship in Class 3A and a second-straight perfect season. Allori was nearly 20 seconds better than second place in another dominant performance from one of the best girls runners in Fort Collins history.

  • Cash Altschwager, Wellington football: The Eagles junior is nominated for a third straight week, because he just keeps making plays. Altschwager helped Wellington finish off an unbeaten regular season with 231 total yards, five touchdowns, seven tackles, an interception and a pair of 2-point conversions in a 56-14 win over Bennett.

  • Mikaela Kendall, Heritage Christian cross-country: The Eagles' sophomore took runner-up honors at the 2A state meet and was just one second off her personal record time on a challenging course. More importantly, Kendall's second-place performance helped the Heritage Christian girls cross-country team win its first-ever state title.

  • Nick Kubat, Fossil Ridge football: The SaberCats quarterback finished the regular season with a half of excellent football. That's all he needed, carving Poudre up for 264 passing yards and three touchdowns in the first half, including TD passes of 94 and 60 yards. Fossil routed its rivals 42-16 and earned a 5A playoff berth with the win.

  • Kadence Marsh, Windsor volleyball: The junior was everywhere in a busy five-match week for the Wizards. Marsh compiled a whopping 124 assists, 56 digs, 47 blocks, 17 kills and five aces as Windsor went 3-2 against top 5A/4A competition in the Cheyenne Mountain tournament. The Wizards wrapped up a 4A No. 2 seed and will host a regional this weekend.
