BATTLE CREEK - The B.O.B. is back!

B.O.B. stands for the Best Of Battle Creek. Each week throughout the spring, we are going to ask, "Who is the Best Of Battle Creek?" as we look at each position in baseball and softball among the city and area high school teams.

Nominations for each position come from the area baseball and softball coaches with a little information on each player, and then it will be up to the Enquirer readers to decide who is the B.O.B.?

Class: Junior

Why he is the 2B/SS in the Battle Creek area: A three-year starter for state-power Olivet, Lalo Aguirre is a key part of the Eagles lineup in the infield. The junior was the only sophomore on the All-State Dream Team last year and is hitting .400 for the third year in a row.

School: Gull Lake

Class: Junior

Why he is the 2B/SS in the Battle Creek area: Showing great bat control with only two strikeouts on the season, Luke Anderson has become one of the top hitters for the Gull Lake lineup. The second baseman is hitting .355 with a .429 on-base percentage with 18 runs scored. He is also an elite defender and one of the team's key pitchers.

School: Harper Creek

Class: Junior

Why he is the 2B/SS in the Battle Creek area: A captain as a junior, Brayden Bess is a multiple-sport standout who has already been selected All-City twice. A dynamic two-way player, Bess is hitting .375 with a .615 on-base percentage at the plate. In the field, the shortstop has one of the strongest arms in the area and shows great toughness and determination on defense.

Maddox Bishop

School: Lakeview

Class: Senior

Why he is the 2B/SS in the Battle Creek area: A steady presence for Lakeview for several years, the senior infielder shows leadership on and off the field. A solid bat in the Spartan lineup, and good defender, Maddox Bishop has also been a key arm in the pitching rotation.

School: Marshall

Class: Sophomore

Why he is the 2B/SS in the Battle Creek area: As a rising prospect as a sophomore, Lincoln Fuller has come up big on offense for Marshall, leading the team in hits, batting average, slugging percentage and home runs. A bright spot on a rebuilding team, Fuller also has a .913 fielding percentage at shortstop.

School: Climax-Scotts/St. Philip

Class: Junior

Why he is the 2B/SS in the Battle Creek area: An all-around athlete, Logan Gilbert plays shortstop and is the leadoff hitter for the Climax-Scotts/St. Philip co-op team. The junior leads the team in runs scored, stolen bases, walks and has an on-base percentage of .513. Also taking his turn on the mound, he is 5-1 as one of the team's top pitchers.

School: Pennfield

Class: Sophomore

Why he is the 2B/SS in the Battle Creek area: Already a two-year starter as a sophomore, Garrett Hill has an impressive glove and a strong throwing arm, who can deliver the ball from different angles. A good option as a leadoff batter for Pennfield, the infielder is an excellent bunter and a big part of the Panther future.

Isaiah Sullivan

School: Homer

Class: Junior

Why he is the 2B/SS in the Battle Creek area: Isaiah Sullivan made the move from second base to shortstop this season for Homer and has excelled. Batting third in the Trojan lineup, Sullivan does what is needed to help the team, driving in runs or moving a runner over. He is batting .464 with a .531 on-base percentage.
