Vote: Who is the best high school catcher in baseball in Battle Creek area?

BATTLE CREEK - The B.O.B. is back!

B.O.B. stands for the Best Of Battle Creek. Each week throughout the spring, we are going to ask, "Who is the Best Of Battle Creek?" as we look at each position in baseball and softball among the city and area high school teams.

Nominations for each position come from the area baseball and softball coaches with a little information on each player, and then it will be up to the Enquirer readers to decide who is the B.O.B.?

Class: Senior

Why he is the best catcher in the Battle Creek area: A four-year starter, Collin Hatton is having a big senior season with a .591 batting average with 12 RBI, along with seven walks and no strikeouts.

Zach Kucharczyk

School: Lakeview

Class: Senior

Why he is the best catcher in the Battle Creek area: A four-year starter who is already a three-time All-City pick and all-league selection, Zach Kucharczyk was also all-state the last two seasons. Kucharczyk was a steadying force on the infield from his catching position and was a spark to the offense last year with a .403 batting average and .494 on-base percentage with 45 runs scored and 30 RBI and 36 stolen bases and will continue his career at Kellogg Community College next year.

Jake Miller

School: Olivet

Class: Senior

Why he is the best catcher in the Battle Creek area: A three-year senior, who was a leader on back-to-back teams with 30-plus wins the last two years, Jake Miller was all-conference a season ago. Batting .347 this year with only five errors combined in the last three seasons.

School: Harper Creek

Class: Senior

Why he is the best catcher in the Battle Creek area: A senior captain and a multiple-time All-City selection, Brady Southfield is also an all-league pick who has been a defensive leader and offensive force for Harper Creek. Southfield had an on-base percentage of .505 a year ago with 23 RBI and has a .987 fielding percentage.

Danny Wells

School: Pennfield

Class: Senior

Why he is the best catcher in the Battle Creek area: After an injury-hampered junior season, Danny Wells is working his way back for his senior campaign and coming on strong for the Panthers at the catcher spot. Working well with the pitching staff, Wells is a leader on and off the diamond.

Parker Woodrow

Parker Woodrow

School: Gull Lake

Class: Junior

Why he is the best catcher in the Battle Creek area: A two-year starter at catcher for Gull Lake, Parker Woodrow is a team leader as a junior, showcasing good defensive and offensive tools that are expected to blossom as his high school career moves on.

Tucker Zweng
Tucker Zweng

Tucker Zweng

School: Union City

Class: Freshman

Why he is the best catcher in the Battle Creek area: Having a breakout freshman season, Tucker Zweng is gaining good experience behind the plate as the main catcher for Union City. Zweng has an on-base percentage of .459 and eight RBI in the early going.
