Vote for Battle Creek Enquirer Athlete of the Week - Week of Sept. 16

Meet the Battle Creek Enquirer Athletes of the Week, presented by Oaklawn Hospital.

Each week during the high school sports season, we will ask our readers to vote for the top performance of the week in all the spring sports, taking a look at events from Monday-Saturday.

Make sure to vote early and often for your pick, as the winner will get an Enquirer Athlete of the Week T-shirt. Fans can vote for their favorite athlete until Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Lakeview Girls Swimming

Junior Avery Russell was a part of four first-place finishes to help Lakeview win the All-City Girls Swimming and Diving Championship for the sixth straight time. Russell, who also had four first-place finishes a year ago, won the 200 freestyle and finished first in the 500 freestyle. Russell was also the anchor leg on the winning 200 free relay and the 400 relay.

Harper Creek Volleyball

In a victory over Marshall, Ella Chantrenne helped Harper Creek take back 'The Bucket ' - a traveling trophy between the two teams - for the first time since 2016. The Beavers beat Marshall in an Interstate 8 Conference match, 25-19, 25-16, 25-16. Chantrenne came up big for the Beavers with 15 kills and 11 digs in the match.

Lakeview Volleyball

Lakeview's Anya Rankin helped the Spartans win the Portage Northern Invitational. The Spartans defeated Three Rivers in the championship final, 25-17, 21-25, 15-10. Rankin had 32 kills and 50 digs to help lead the way in the championship effort as Lakeview was undefeated on the day with wins over Otsego, Hopkins, Bronson, Buchanan and Edwardsburg.

Battle Creek Central Swimming

For a small and young Battle Creek Central program, Camille Rojas had a standout performance for the Bearcats in the annual All-City Girls Swimming and Diving Championship. Rojas was the only Bearcat swimmer to have a top three finish, taking second in the 200 free and second in the 100 butterfly.
